USAC SPRINTS MAKE NEBRASKA DEBUT FRIDAY AT EAGLE RACEWAY

SPRINTS MAKE NEBRASKA DEBUT FRIDAY AT EAGLE RACEWAY

AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car racing makes its debut in the Cornhusker State Friday when the series visits Eagle Raceway near Lincoln, Neb.

Friday’s Eagle race will feature a battle for the 2012 AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car point lead between leader Jon Stanbrough and defending five-time series champion Levi Jones, who are separated by only six points.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind., the winningest active driver in terms of USAC National feature victories, will continue to chase the all-time leader in terms of USAC National Sprint wins in Friday’s race at the one-third-mile dirt oval. Hines has 42 wins in the series and trails all-time leader Tom Bigelow by 10.

Hines leads all USAC drivers with three wins in the 24 Midget races held in Nebraska since 1974. The first was at Midwest Speedway in Lincoln and Hines won at Eagle in 1996, 2002 and 2003.

The Eagle race kicks off an ambitious five-night Mid-America swing which includes races Saturday night at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. and Sunday night at U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo., followed by Monday and Tuesday night “special events” at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

USAC racing in Nebraska has included Midget races at Midwest Speedway in Lincoln, Sunset Speedway in Omaha, Eagle Raceway, Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction and Butler County Motorplex in Rising City.

Brady Bacon, this year’s “Hut Hundred” champion, and Brad Kuhn won the last USAC races in Nebraska, at McCool Junction in 2009.

The ‘Outlaw Sprint Warrior’ competitor will go wheel-to-wheel against some of the most experienced ’410′ sprint car teams that Ohio has to offer this Friday night; hoping to gain valuable experience and track time to better prepare himself for the upcoming 305 sprint car special at Wayne County Speedway on Friday evening, August 10th. Whitesell has one win in sprint car competition in 2012; that coming at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania during an ‘Outlaw Sprint Warrior’ main event. DREAM RACE – TOTAL RACE PURSE & CONTINGENCY PRIZES PUSH $60,000 TOTAL – LEGENDARY BOOP’S CAR ADDED TO PORT LIVING LEGENDS DREAM DISPLAY SATURDAY!

Port Royal – Back in 1979 when the World of Outlaws made their first ever visit to Port Royal Speedway, they took a beating at the hands of Lynn Paxton.

Paxton will be honored this Saturday at the Living Legends Dream Race as he and car owner Al Hamilton are feted as PRS Living Legends.

And the car that Paxton used to beat the outlaws big guns back in 1979 is tentatively slated to be on hand, with confirmation being made late Monday afternoon.

Paxton throttled the 1979 version of the Boop’s Aluminum Special No. 1 sprint car to the win on July 25, 1979 and beat Sammy Swindell, Jim Nace, Steve Kinser and Rand Wolfe.

With the addition of this car to the arsenal of restored Paxton and/or Hamilton mounts slated to be on hand for the event, the total number of cars on display for the show now stands at nine.

One of Paxton’s earlier race cars, an Emrich Chevrolet No. 1 will also be on display along with two other restored versions of Paxton’s famed Boop’s No. 1.

Also on hand in honor of both driver Paxton and owner Hamilton will be a rarely seen red, white and blue Hamilton No. 77 sprinter that was campaigned by the duo near the end of Paxton’s career in 1983.

Hamilton’s famed No. 77 from 1975 as driven by the immortalized Jan Opperman will also be on display.

Other Hamilton cars that will be on display include a version driven by Rahmer in the 1990’s and another as driven by Billy Cassella , Roger Larson, Ray Lee Goodwin and others in the early 1970’s.

Plus, Aaron Ott will have his current Hamilton Motorsports-sponsored No. 77 on display prior to the races as well.

A pre-race autograph session with Living Legend honorees Lynn Paxton and Al Hamilton will get underway among the restored cars at 5:30 pm.

Joining the 2012 Living Legends honorees will be Paxton’s famous car owner Maynard Boop, who owned the Boop’s Aluminum Special No. 1.

Hamilton drivers slated to attend the autograph session aside from Paxton include Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer and Keith Kauffman along with Ott.

The 2012 Living Legends Dream Race will feature not only a more than $50,000 total purse payout but it will also distribute thousands in contingency cash and prizes to the sprint car drivers in attendance that will push the total night’s payout to $60,000 or more.

For fans, a treat in itself will be the chance to essentially see four main events in one night including the Dream A, a pair of semi features and a B Main as well.

The format will see the odd and even finishers in time trials be split apart into respective 16-lap semis.

From there, every position gained during each semi by a driver will serve to advance that driver into their Dream A starting spot for those who finish inside the top 10.

The balance of the semi fields finishing outside of the top 10 will fall back to the B Main with Dream starting positions 21 – 24 to be determined by its finish.

Plus, a fan voted 25th starter will be put into the Dream based on which non-qualifying driver in the B garners the most raucous response from the crowd.

Sponsors of the 2012 Dream Race are River Valley Builders, Selinsgrove; Brown’s Funeral Home, Mifflintown; and First National Bank of Mifflintown.

Go to the speedway website at portroyalspeedway.com to see the most up to date list of contingency cash and prizes slated to be given away to racers.

Adult general admission for the show is $27 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for just $5.  Time trials are slated for 7:30 pm

Cat Daddy Eyes Shawano World of Outlaws Late Model Series Event!

Veteran Georgia Driver Enters Third Annual Tour Event At Wisconsin Track With Plenty Of Momentum

By Kevin Kovac, WoO LMS P.R. Director

SHAWANO, WI – July 30, 2012 – Clint Smith can’t wait for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series to resume action this Wednesday night (Aug. 1) at Shawano Speedway.

“We’re looking forward to every race right now,” said the veteran driver from Senoia, Ga. “The way we’ve been running, we’re feeling pretty good about ourselves.”

Indeed, Smith, 47, has reason to smile as the WoO LMS heads to Shawano for the third consecutive year. While his performance record in two previous starts at the half-mile oval 45 minutes Northwest of Green Bay isn’t noteworthy, he enters the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win mid-week event in the midst of a summertime surge that has revitalized his racing fortunes.

A WoO LMS regular since the circuit was re-launched in 2004 under the World Racing Group banner, Smith has struggled to consistently contend with his self-owned race team since finishing a career-best third in the 2007 points standings. He got off to a slow start again this season – just one top-five finish through the first 15 A-Mains – but he’s picked up steam over the last two months, registering five top-five runs in the last 10 races to surpass his total in that category for the entire 2011 campaign.

The last two WoO LMS shows, in fact, represented Smith’s best outings of the season. He led every lap but the last one on July 13 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D. – Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., overtook Smith off the final corner to win the 50-lapper by a mere 0.024 of a second – and finished a solid third on July 14 at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn.

Throw in a $5,300 victory in a Southern Nationals series event on July 22 at Rome (Ga.) Speedway – Smith’s first checkered flag of ’12 – and it’s clear that things are looking up in Cat Daddy’s world.

According to Smith, technical assistance he’s received from Lanigan, who set a new modern-era WoO LMS single-season win record when he recorded his 10th triumph of ’12 at North Central, and Peach State asphalt Late Model standout Bubba Pollard has gotten him back in a competitive state.

Smith traces the start of his resurgence to a conversation he had in early June with the 25-year-old Pollard, who not only lives a half-mile from Smith but is also a cousin of Smith’s wife, Kim.

“We actually were looking at a picture of my car that come across on the computer – a picture that looked real cool from Ocala (Florida’s Bubba Raceway Park),” said Smith, who often talks with Pollard. “I had the left-front a little bit off the ground, the left-rear was digging and the car was kind of rocked on the right-rear, which made for a great picture but not a great setup. We got to watching Darrell Lanigan’s car – he’s been real good this whole year – and saw how it was down on the right-front and the right-rear and steering around the corner so good, and we realized we had to get our car more like his.

“After (a WoO LMS event at) Delaware (International Speedway on May 31), we came back, and Bubba said, ‘I think I can help you all fix that.’ So we started doing some of his shock and spring stuff, trying to interact the dirt and asphalt worlds a little bit to try and make the car do what Darrell’s car looks like.”

Smith noticed immediate positive results in the DIRTcar-sanctioned Dream on June 9 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, finishing sixth in the 100-lap crown-jewel race with “probably one of the best cars we’ve ever had at Eldora.” He was strong the following week in WoO LMS events at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway and Eriez Speedway in Hammett, Pa., but dropped out of both with mechanical trouble, and then he rang up WoO LMS finishes of fifth on June 22 at Quebec’s Autodrome Granby (after leading the first 22 laps) and fourth on June 26 at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park.

“By that time we were talking with Darrell a little bit and found out some of the stuff he was doing,” said Smith, who has been traveling up-and-down the road with Lanigan this summer. “Darrell has the same kind of (Rocket) car that we’re running so we’ve been sharing some information back-and-forth, and when he threw a little something my way to try and get us helped out we realized that he was doing somewhat the same kind of stuff that we were trying with Bubba.”

In the wake of his runner-up finish at River Cities, podium placing at North Central and Southern Nationals win in his home state, Smith has developed a confidence in his Rocket Chassis/RaceTek engine combination that he hasn’t had in some time. He sees the end of his 50-race WoO LMS winless streak being close at hand and a rise from his current seventh-place spot in the points standings being entirely possible.

“If you can just start getting those top-fives like we’ve been getting you’ll eventually get a win,” said Smith, whose last World of Outlaws triumph came on May 8 at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga. “Darrell’s been real dominant, so just being able to run with him like we have is an accomplishment.

“I’m feeling great,” he continued. “We have a super package right now, and I think if we can keep this up we’ll get back in Victory Lane and maybe even get into the top five in the points. If we did, that would be a super good year for us.”

Following a two-and-a-half-week break from WoO LMS competition, Smith will attempt to realize his golden hopes beginning with Wednesday night’s program at Shawano. His previous visits to the fairgrounds facility resulted in quiet finishes of 22nd in 2010 (dropped out on lap 22 after his engine lost oil pressure) and ninth in ’11 (from the 14th starting spot), but he’s a big fan of a place he calls “a big superspeedway-type racetrack.”

“Earlier in my career I was always intimidated by the bigger places because, coming from the south, all of our tracks are three-eighths (mile) or smaller usually so I just never got used to running big tracks,” said Smith. “But now, running the big tracks is easier than the small tracks for me. We’ve adapted our driving to the high speeds and the bigger tracks seem to suit our Rocket cars.

“I really like Shawano. It’s a super-good racetrack as far as passing, and it’s a super-nice facility too.”

Lanigan, who won last year’s WoO LMS event at Shawano, and former tour champions Rick Eckert of York, Pa., and Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., will lead the tour’s charge to Shawano. The circuit’s regulars also include 2012 Eldora Dream winner Shane Clanton of Fayetteville, Ga., Chub Frank of Bear Lake, Pa., Vic Coffey of Caledonia, N.Y., Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., and Rookie of the Year contenders Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., and Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark.

Among the talented drivers expected to challenge the Outlaws are Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., who won the ’10 WoO LMS event at Shawano, and his rising-star son Billy Moyer Jr.; Chad Simpson of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, who led the first 25 laps of last year’s Shawano A-Main before mechanical trouble knocked him out of second place with two laps remaining; Don O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind. (third-place finisher last year); Wisconsin standouts Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Brady Smith of Solon Springs and A.J. Diemel of Bonduel; Illinois travelers Jason Feger of Bloomington, Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin and Frankie Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park; and Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del.

Shawano’s Wed., Aug. 1, program, which also includes action for the IMCA Northern Sport Mods, is scheduled to begin with hot laps at 6:30 p.m.

Reserved seat and general admission tickets are $25 for ages 12-and-over and $10 for children 11-and-under. Seats in the track’s covered grandstand can be reserved in advance by calling Shawano Speedway at 715-526-7069. Pit passes will be $40.

Shawano Speedway is located about 45 minutes northwest of Green Bay and three-and-a-half hours east of Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., where the WoO LMS heads for the 25th annual USA Nationals on Aug. 2-4.

Lasoski gets UNOH All Star win in wild Huset’s finish!

http://ascoc.allstarsprint.com/images/stories/Lasoski_12.JPGBRANDON, SD (July 29, 2012)By Brian Liskai – When Danny Lasoski executed a 360 degree spin with just two laps remaining in Sunday night’s feature at Huset’s Speedway, he thought his chances of winning were over. But, as he gathered his car back up and raced down the back stretch in fourth, luck would be on his side.

When the caution flew for a stalled car, new race leader Mark Dobmeier’s right rear tire lost air pressure and second place Lynton Jeffrey went pit side with mechanical problems. That handed the lead to Tim Shaffer, who had started 21st, as the field readied for a green, white, checkered finish. When the green came back out, Lasoski blasted around Shaffer and went on to score the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions victory.

It marked Lasoski’s fourth UNOH All Star win of 2012 and the 37th of his career, placing him in a tie with Doug Wolfgang for 12 on the series’ all-time win list. For Lasoski, a three time Huset’s Speedway champion, it was his 41st victory at the track.

“That was a wild one. We went out and set the pace and I felt the rubber get down and I was just taking it easy and taking it easy. Then it started shaking real bad when I got behind a lapped car and Dobmeier ran over the front end there and turned me around and what ever happened and then he blew a tire and Timmy (Shaffer) got the lead. I waited until the last lap and I decided to go for broke and I got around the outside of him,” said Lasoski beside his Triple X Chassis, Kistler Engines, Klein Motors and RV’s, Creason Construction backed #33.

“I want to thank my guys, Triple X Chassis and Rich and my buddy Chris Straight. We have just a two man band and he works his tail off and we couldn’t do it without him. I want to thank Kistler Engines and the Michael Ross Foundation and Todd Creason…they make it possible for us to be here, added Lasoski.

“Probably from about lap 15 on I didn’t even push the gas. I was just babying it and when I got behind lapped cars it got real tight. Sometimes it’s just better to be running second. I’m just glad to be back home here,” concluded Lasoski.

For Shaffer, a three time UNOH All Star champion and current series point leader, it was another podium finish.

“I took it a little too easy trying to save tires and Danny snuck by. You know, 21st to second…we’ll take it,” said Shaffer beside his VRP Shocks, Kistler Engines backed, Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned #83. “It’s getting tougher and tougher…everyone seems to be getting better and better.”

Watertown, Connecticut’s David Gravel would also continue his good runs with a third place finish.

“My tire was really bald. My crew guys told me to take it easy and I did…I took it too easy throughout the whole race,” said Gravel of his P&M Transportation, Model Craft, Musco Fuels backed #89G. “But we finished and we finished on the podium and I can’t complain about that. I love this place, you have to be aggressive and up on the wheel and the fans are great.

Lasoski and Ian Madsen would bring the field to the green, but a multi-car pileup would halt the action. When the green came back out, Lasoski would grab the lead over Dobmeier, Gravel, Justin Henderson and Terry McCarl. Thanks to the opening lap crash, Shaffer, who started 21st, would be 12th after the first lap and would drive into 10th a lap later.

Lasoski, Dobmeier and Gravel would continue to hold down the top three positions while 15th place starter Lynton Jeffrey moved into fourth by lap four. Jeffrey would drive around Gravel for third on lap 14 while Shaffer had worked his way up to fifth. Shaffer would grab fourth from Gravel on lap 17.

With three laps to go, Lasoski and Dobmeier would begin battling for the lead, and when they got together in turns one and two, Lasoski executed a 360 degree spin, falling back to fourth and handing the lead to Dobmeier. A stalled car would bring out the caution to set up a green, white, checkered over-time finish. But, during the caution, Dobmeier’s right rear tire lost air pressure and new leader Jeffrey would suffer mechanical problems. That put Shaffer, who had been sitting in fourth on lap 28, into the lead with Lasoski now second, Gravel third, McCarl fourth and Henderson fifth.

Shaffer would lead the field to the white and as they hit turns three and four on the last lap, Lasoski drove around “The Steel City Outlaw” to take the checkered. Gravel would hold on to third with McCarl and Henderson rounding out the top five.

NEBRASKA, MISSOURI RACES NEXT UP FOR AMSOIL SPRINTS

DARLAND CASHES $10,500 “SUMMER SPRINT SHOOTOUT” CHECK

Five races in five nights await the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Cars this weekend as Jon Stanbrough and Levi Jones continue their torrid duel for the lead in search of the National title.

Friday night’s race is at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway, while Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo. hosts Saturday night’s race. Sunday night’s venue is U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo. “Special events” are also planned Monday and Tuesday nights, August 6-7 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The August 6 Oskaloosa race is part of the track’s 17th Annual Musco Front Row Challenge” and does not offer USAC National points. The August 7 Oskaloosa race, the 11th Annual Casey’s General Stores “Ulktimate Challenge,” with $15,000-to-win and another $10,000 in bonus product incentives posted for participants, is a USAC “special event” and offers appearance points only.

Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. cashed a paycheck of $10,500 after his victory in Saturday night’s NAPA Auto Parts “Summer Sprint Car Shootout” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Darland, who ranks third in the standings, earned his fourth 2012 feature victory in the Jeff Walker Racing Jam-It-In Storage/Hoosier Tire Maxim/Claxton by leading the final 28 laps after passing Bryan Clauson on lap 23 of the 50-lap race. The race celebrated USAC’s 50 years of Sprint car racing at the half-mile oval.

Trailing Darland at the checkered flag were Clauson, who led 19 laps, Stanbrough, Chase Stockon and Thomas Meseraull. Coleman Gulick led the first three laps from the pole.

This week’s races will also feature a hotly-contested battle for the 2012 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Owner’s Championship between Roberts/Tate Racing, CTR/BCI/Mike Curb-Agajanian and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing with only six points separating the three teams.

Outlaws Heat Up as the Goodyear Knoxville Nationals Gear Up
Top five drivers enter $150,000-to-win event in midst of historic points battle

KNOXVILLE, Iowa – July 30, 2012 – During one of the hottest summers in recent memory, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship battle has sizzled.
The top five drivers – made up of Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and Sammy Swindell, who have combined for 27 championships, and first-time hopefuls Craig Dollansky and Joey Saldana – are separated by only 49 points as the premier weekend of the season approaches.

Those drivers have also united to claim 18 titles at the Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, which begins its 52nd edition on Thursday, Aug. 8. The four-day event wraps up with the $150,000-to-win feature on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Steve Kinser has claimed a Nationals-best 12, including eight out of 10 between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s.

“Everybody puts a lot of time into that Nationals,” he said. “It’s a big race for everybody. You’ve got to get yourself in position to win that race. You’ve got to run good in the preliminary night to give yourself an opportunity to win it. You’ve got to put it all together all weekend, not just Saturday night.”

Schatz has been the driver to beat in recent years after garnering five wins in the last six events.

“We’ve just had a great group of guys that have put us in good position every time,” he said. “And even if we’ve got ourselves in a bad position, we’ve had a great race car and been able to overcome the hurdles.”

Sammy Swindell won his lone Goodyear Knoxville Nationals title in 1983, but after winning the Kings Royal a couple of weeks ago, is as determined as ever.

The preliminary nights of Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 8-9, for the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals have been released and feature nearly 100 competitors vying for the top 16 spots based on points, which are locked into Saturday’s feature.

All other drivers will compete on Friday, Aug. 10, in a new format that will advance the top four to Saturday’s main event. All remaining competitors will duke it out through consolation features on Saturday leading up to the biggest payday of the season and the prestigious title of Goodyear Knoxville Nationals champion.

Tickets for the 52nd annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals can be ordered online at KnoxvilleRaceway.com.

Schatz Cruises to Victory in Outlaws Debut at Cornwall Motor Speedway
He snaps a 33-race winless streak after leading all 40 feature laps at the quarter mile

CORNWALL, Ontario – July 29, 2012 – A quarter-mile track couldn’t have come at a better time for Donny Schatz.
A night after a violent flip destroyed his sprint car and left him beaten and bruised, Schatz rebounded in a backup car to lead all 40 laps on Sunday in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series debut at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

It was his third victory in six races at a quarter-mile track this season and it snapped a 33-race winless streak.

“Last night I was just glad to walk away from it,” Schatz said. “To come back with a victory, it’s the best thing you can ask for. We haven’t won a race in a while. We did everything we could tonight right and got a win, so it feels really good.

“It’s the way our program is built. Any time we get in that gear range we seem to have a little better handle on things – the way the car works, the way the motors run and all that. We really want to work on our big track stuff.”

After winning three of the first 12 World of Outlaws events of the season, Schatz hadn’t found the winner’s circle since April 25. Not only did he end Sunday night in Victory Lane, Schatz did so in style.

He qualified eighth quickest, led all 10 laps to win his heat race and then paced all eight laps of the dash to earn the pole for the feature.

Schatz shot out to the feature lead at the drop of the green flag with Kraig Kinser maintaining a close second. The duo entered traffic on lap eight and Kinser nearly caught a break when Schatz jumped the cushion in turns three and four while trying to lap Jessica Zemken on lap 17.

Schatz held on to the position amid tight traffic, which allowed Craig Dollansky – who drove from sixth to third in the first 15 laps – to join the battle for the lead.

“The track held up pretty well,” Dollansky said. “It definitely got slick as the night wore on. You could race the top. You could race the bottom, especially in (turns) three and four.”

The trio navigated its way through the cluster of cars as Steve Kinser began to edge closer to the front. After starting 12th, Kinser cracked the top five on lap 22 and was up to fourth on lap 25.

“We just got moving pretty good on the bottom and the middle,” he said. “The track was actually pretty good for the feature. You could move around. You could run the bottom, middle and the top. Once the cushion left it made it to where you could pass. It made a good race out of it then. Everybody could move around on it.”

As Kinser closed in on the front three, Dollansky made contact with the back of Kraig Kinser as they entered turn one with eight laps remaining. Kinser spun around, but kept his car going as Kerry Madsen slid off the track in turn four to force the only caution of the race.

Kinser, who fell to fourth, let Dollansky know his frustration during the caution. Schatz then had a clean restart and Steve Kinser got by Dollansky for the runner-up position on lap 35. Traffic appeared with three laps remaining, but Schatz negotiated the slower cars with ease to record his fourth win of the season.

“I didn’t overdrive anything,” he said. “I’ve got a little pain and thinking about that probably more than anything. Probably not overanalyzing things and trying to stay cool, calm and collected and not spin the tires, so that probably helped us get the win tonight.”

Sammy Swindell finished fourth and fast qualifier Lucas Wolfe ended fifth. Chad Kemenah was sixth, Kraig Kinser seventh, Joey Saldana eighth, Michael Parent ninth and Cody Darrah earned the KSE Hard Charger Award after driving from last – 21st – to round out the top 10.

Saldana, Schatz and Kraig Kinser each claimed a heat race.

Loyet Strikes Gold in California!

Loyet Strikes Gold in California

Bryan Hulbert – Santa Maria, California (July 29, 2012) It was only a matter of time before Brad Loyet found victory lane with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV. Rolling the high-line to perfection, the man of infinite hometowns finally found the win he was searching for at Santa Maria Speedway this past Sunday.

“Basically I rolled up there before that yellow and the car felt good. I was ok on the bottom, just as good as anyone else, but you can’t pass anybody when you’re following them” commented Loyet in victory lane. “I just got up there and got going. This is a pretty big win for me you know. We’ve been really close to getting a feature win and to finally get this one it’s a pretty big deal.”

Having to re-stack the field after Dustin Morgan found himself upside down, a second red out fly for the flipped No. 84 of Kyle Evans on lap two.

Finally getting the feature rolling, Loyet would roll off eighth; spending the first third of the feature outside the top five as Brady Bacon showed the way after drawing the number one spot.

Leading Gary Wright into slower traffic, the Fatheadz Eyewear No. 99 was true to form, committing to the inside line. Only pulling off the bottom to clear lapped traffic, Bacon would maintain a seven car length advantage before the caution lights blinked on for the stopped No. 45x of Johnny Herrera on lap fourteen.

Taking the green, Loyet would restart fifth. Getting the run to the outside, the Vacuworx International No. 05 would quickly bolt into the top three. Running down Gary Wright by lap sixteen, the pass for second was made exiting turn two while the pass of the lead would come exiting turn four on the same lap.

Pulling immediately to a near straight-a-way advantage, the field would quickly be on Loyet’s bumper as the caution flew for Herrera again on lap nineteen, giving the Albuquerque racer a twentieth place showing.

Up to speed on the high line, Loyet wasted little time again pulling to a comfortable advantage before another caution was displayed on lap twenty-three for the spun No. 21 of Tommy Tarlton and No. 94 of Steven Tiner. Tarlton would rejoin the line-up however Tiner would be towed to the pits for a nineteenth place finish.

Underway for the final seven laps, there would be little challenge for the Loyet Motorsports No. 05 as Brad Loyet drove away to his first Lucas Oil ASCS triumph. Brady Bacon would settle for second with Kyle Hirst taking third by inches at the line over the spinning No. 41 of Jason Johnson after the two drivers came together at the starters stand. Gary Wright would hold on to round out the top five. Tony Bruce Jr. would grab sixth with Logan Forler seventh. Shane Golobic, Dominic Scelzi, and Seth Bergman completed the top ten.

HODNETT AND HAUS CLAIM TWO BEST OF THE PORT ROYAL SEASON, WAGNER AND POWELL ALSO WIN

7-28

Port Royal - What was arguably the two best races of the season were staged Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway as Greg Hodnett scored his seventh 410 sprint victory of the season from deep in the pack while Scott Haus picked up his second of the year in late models.

Elsewhere, Mike Wagner II., won the 305 sprint feature in companion action while Bill Powell returned to victory lane for the first time this season in the enduro dash division.

Lance Dewease and Keith Kauffman started on the front row of the 25-lap Aumiller’s Insurance sprint car main and the first lap turned out to be a dandy with Dewease getting the drop on Kauffman as the field took the green only to see the ageless veteran rally to his outside in the first corner.

Kauffman pulled even with Dewease as the pair raced down the backstretch in an unflinching battle of wills that saw Kauffman power down in front of Dewease, slamming the door on him as the pair set their cars into the third turn.

Dewease kept pace with Kauffman during the early going and searched for a winning groove to get by him although frequent caution flags kept breaking up the race pace.

The cautions also gave Hodnett and 20th starter Fred Rahmer plenty of opportunity to advance through the field and by the time the third yellow of the event unfurled with eight laps down, Hodnett was up to third from 12th with Rahmer sixth.

Kauffman held Dewease off on the restart with another identical power move into the third corner after drag racing Dewease down the backchute but finally succumbed to relentless pressure from the Fayetteville flyer with 12 laps down and by lap 14, Hodnett had disposed of Kauffman too with Rahmer flying up to fourth spot.

Another yellow bunched the field with 10 laps to go and though a fleet-running Hodnett took his shot when action resumed, he didn’t have enough to muscle by Dewease while Rahmer raced third.

Eventually, Dewease began to put a whisker of breathing room between himself and Hodnett as the race began to work into the final five laps and though he had Hodnett racing just off of his rear bumper at times, Dewease seemed unshakable.

But all that changed with he disintegrated a left rear tire as he crossed the stripe with three laps to go, surrendering the lead and his bid for his third Port win of the season.

Rahmer tried to test Hodnett on the final restart but it turned out to be Hodnett’s 31st career win at the track.

Thanks to an increased purse in effect because of a 30-car field Hodnett took $3,200 for the base victory pay but he also claimed a $300 bonus for winning from the sixth row.

In doing so, the Thomasville speedster became the first driver to claim the regular show bonus money for winning from the sixth row or further back since the bonus package was put into effect at the track last April.

Rahmer rode home second followed by Mike Erdley, 18th starter Blane Heimbach and Kauffman.

Sixth through 10th went to Doug Esh, Mike Wagner, Davey Sammons, Jordan Frontz and Steve Buckwalter.

Heats went to Sammons, Esh and Joey Hershey with Daryl Stimeling taking the consolation.

Haus picked up the AB Auto Glass late model main after winning a nail-biter over eighth starter Mike Lupfer.

Luper was up to second when a caution flag regrouped the field with nine laps to go in the 20-lapper, allowing him to close the distance he was trying to run down before the break.

And for the final nine circuits, Lupfer raced in the leader’s shadow and threw a shadow of his own on Haus at times as he would frequently take the lead only to see Haus battle back.

The pair raced nip and tuck around the oval with Lupfer running a lane lower than Haus, always able to pull into the lead with a run through the first and second turns.

But Haus would repeatedly return the favor in turns three and four as he would power his No. 21 to Lupfer’s outside through the corners and pull him down the frontchute to maintain his official lead at the stripe.

Lupfer came up the loser in the late model battle royale at the finish when Haus crossed the stripe first for his 95th career victory at Port Royal.

Haus lauded track officials for a three-groove racing surface the produced the exciting action.

Tim Wilson rode home third followed by Jeff Miller and Chris Casner.

Sixth through 10th went to Mitch Hack, Tim Fedder, Todd Snook, Coleby Frye and Terry Naugle.

Heats for the 26-car field went to Andy Haus, Scott Flickinger and Lupfer.

Craig Myers led the first lap of the 20-lap 305 sprint main before  Mike Wagner II., took over and throttled his way to the win.

His brother Logan Wagner, who started eighth, drove into second place with 12 laps to go but even with a restart with six laps to go, Logan failed to upstage brother Mike.

Mike Wagner II., became the winningest driver in the division at the track by virtue of his victory, breaking a three-way tie.

It was his career fourth at the oval.

Logan Wagner was second followed by Nate Gramley, Reed Thompson and Mark Watkins.

Sixth through 10th went to Ryan Lynn, Tyler Bear, Greg Myers, George Riden and Kody Lehman.

Heats for the 26 cars in action went to Gramley, Thompson and  Bear.

A nasty opening lap crash stopped the Juniata Tire/Casner’s Service enduro dash as the field thundered toward the green flag.

Three-time 2012 winner Jason Zook go the worst end of the incident as he obliterated the inside guardrail abutment and his car just before the stage.

Other cars tumbled towards turn one as the red flag appeared and luckily all drivers escaped major injury.

Bill Powell was involved in the accident and tug up to the rear for the restart and took over the lead from Ryan Leister when Leister’s car gave in to the torrid pace he was setting with seven laps down in the 15-lapper.

It was Powell’s 18th career division win at the speedway.

Brady Cauffman finished second followed by early leader Ryan Renninger, Jan Powell and Jared Fulkroad.

Sixth through 10th went to Devin Hart, Ricky Adair, Deron Henry, John Goshorn and Tyler Amtower.

DIETRICH ASSUMES FIRST WHEN THREE LEADERS CRASH; CLAIMS SIXTH LINCOLN WIN OF THE YEAR

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/28/2012 – Danny Dietrich found himself the leader when cars running first through third crashed together on lap 20, then held off the challenges of Gerard McIntyre, Jr. to score his sixth Lincoln win of the year in the 25-lap “410” sprint car feature Saturday night.

Handicapping placed Dietrich ninth for the start, and he seemed to be going nowhere as seventh-starting Alan Krimes led laps four through 17 and tenth-starting Brian Montieth drove under Krimes to grab the race lead exiting turn four of lap 18.

When the first red flag of the race came out for a flipping Steve Storrie in turns three and four of lap 15, Dietrich was still running fifth. He caught McIntyre for fourth on lap 16, and was still running there when disaster struck for the top three.

Robbie Kendall flipped in turn four, and Montieth hit the brakes to avoid the crash.

“I saw Brian get in there, and he checked up hard and the curb just turned him right,” said Dietrich upon exiting the Gary Kauffman-owned Sandoe’s Fruit Market/APM Buildings #48 in victory lane, “I wasn’t sure which way to go, whether he’d get thrown back into traffic or stay up there. It was one of those deals where you gas, brake, gas brake. I didn’t really see Robbie up there either, and we were lucky to be pretty far behind the top three when the crash occurred.”

Montieth collected second-place Krimes and third-place Aaron Ott, handing the lead to Dietrich for the restart.

“We weren’t really that good. We weren’t bad, but we didn’t have a winning car until that happened,” continued Dietrich.

But the race still wasn’t over. McIntyre drove under Dietrich for the lead on the restart, and led the next two laps before Dietrich could recover and reclaim the lead on lap 23.

“I kinda got caught sleeping a little bit,” said Dietrich, “I tried to roll the middle a little bit, and I ain’t no good in the middle here I guess…not that good…but the only way to get around was to get up on the fence tonight. Luckily, it worked out because he stayed on the middle trying to protect the lead, and I just had to get up on the wheel and get on the horses a little bit.”

From there, Dietrich drove to his 13th career Lincoln win, with McIntyre settling for second, 11th-starting Adam Wilt third, Brian Leppo fourth, and Cory Haas fifth. Completing the top ten were Jim Siegel, 16th-starting Brent Marks, 12th-starting Brad McClelland, 22nd-starting Johnny Mackison, Jr., and Ryan Bohlke.

Heats for the 24 “410” Sprints on hand were won by Ott, McClelland, and Siegel .

Niki Young became the first repeat winner of the year in the 20-lap “358” sprint car feature. Young started ninth and grabbed the lead from third-starting and race-long leader Matt Boland in heavy lapped traffic as the two entered turn three of lap 18. From there, Young drove away to a 1.14-second win, with Boland crossing second, Matt Mountz third, Jeff Rohrbaugh fourth (in the Shane Smith #00), and Tyler Ross fifth.

Sixth through tenth were Isaac Sneeringer, Nathan Berwager, Austin Hogue (who came from the rear after a second lap crash), Mike Bittinger, and 20th-starting Ryan Wilson.

Heats for the 33 “358” Sprinters on hand were won by Boland, Young, and Berwager, with Tim Glatfelter winning the consolation event in the Stallings #59T.

Aberdeen Maryland’s Jimmy Combs ended seven years of frustration and near wins by finally picking up his first career win in the 20-lap thundercar feature.

Fourth-starting Combs raced side-by-side with outside frontrow starter and race-long leader Jamie Zentmyer from laps three through five before making his outside line stick and made his race-winning pass on lap six. From there Combs held off all challenges by Zentmyer the rest of the way to take the checkered 1.76-seconds ahead of Zentmyer for his inaugural win.

Polesitter Mikey Guise finished third, point-leader and hard-charger Duane Watson fourth and Brian Diehl fifth. Completing the top-10 were Mike Slaybaugh, Kyle Martin, Justin Mong, Justin Bittle, and John Stoll, Jr.

Heats for the 19 Thundercars were won by Mikey Guise and Brian Diehl.

Lincoln Speedway swings back into action next Saturday night, August 4th, with a special show consisting of the URC 358/360 SPRINT CAR CHALLENGE, 600cc Micro-Sprints & All-American Outlaws. Gates will open at 5:30 PM, with racing action getting underway at 7:30 PM.

Sebetto Rebounds & Rolls To Sixth FAST Feature Win Of The Season!

Sebetto Rebounds & Rolls To Sixth FAST Feature Win Of The Season

By Brian Liskai – Fremont Speedway Public Relations

(Fremont, OH) Bryan Sebetto took a huge step toward defending his Kistler Racing Products FAST (Fremont Attica Sprint Title) Championship Series title Saturday at Fremont Speedway. Sebetto, who lived dangerously on the edge of the track throughout the feature, would earn his third victory of the season at “The Track That Action Built,” to pad his FAST point lead as he looks to take the $10,000 top prize.

Sebetto, who also has three wins at Attica Raceway Park in 2012, avoided disaster on lap 10, as he bobbled over the cushion in turns one and two, allowing Duane Zablocki to drive around to take the lead. However, Sebetto was able to keep his composure and drive back around Zablocki a lap later and then held off Craig Mintz on a restart with just two laps to go, to score his 20th career win at Fremont, moving him into a tie with Paul Strasser for 26th on the track’s all-time win list.

“I got over that cushion about half the times I tried to go through one and two,” said Sebetto beside his Hammer Pallets, Crown Battery, JLH General Contractors, Meggit Powder Coating, OC Shocks backed #24h.

“I couldn’t ask for a better year with Randy and Lisa Hammer and the whole team with Aaron Hammer, Timmy Pearson and Guhn and everyone that helps out on this deal. They put a dream team together. We built this team from the ground up,” continued Sebetto. “Our Gressman motors are just running top. They’ve given me the best equipment and the most comfortable equipment I can be in. This is the result…we’re winning races.”

“I know it’s Kistler Engines Night and I want to thank Paul (Kistler). He’s been a big inspiration in my racing career. I started working for him when I was back racing 305s and even though we aren’t running his engines any more he’s still been a big supporter of mine,” added Sebetto.

Zablocki and Sebetto would bring the field to the green in the 30-lap Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint feature. Sebetto would bolt into the lead with Zablocki trying to hold of Brock Martin, Brad Bowman, Jack Sodeman Jr., Craig Mintz and Byron Reed. Sebetto set a blistering pace, hitting lapped traffic by the fifth circuit as Zablocki ran comfortably in second while Martin had his hands full with Bowman and Mintz for third.

Sebetto would encounter heavy lapped traffic that was racing side by side in front of him by the ninth lap, allowing Zablocki to quickly close. When Sebetto bobbled in turn two on lap 10, Zablocki dove under him to take the lead. Zablocki’s run up front was short lived, however, as Sebetto would drive around him on lap 11 to take the lead.

The first caution would then fly for a Matt Linder spin with Sebetto leading Zablocki, Mintz, Bowman, Martin, Reed, Rob Chaney, Sodeman and Dean Jacobs. With a clear track, Sebetto would fly back into a commanding leader as Zablocki tried to hold off Mintz.

Cory Crabtree would spin at the half-way point to bring out the yellow. Again, this gave Sebetto the clean air he needed to build a sizeable lead when the green reappeared. Mintz and Zablocki would continue to wage war for second with Bowman, Martin, Reed and Chaney in tow.

Sebetto would encounter lapped traffic on lap 21, allowing Zablocki and Mintz to close. Mintz would move into the runner-up spot on lap 24. With three laps to go, Sebetto once again found himself in heavy traffic as Mintz slowly reeled him in. But, just as Mintz closed to within a couple of car lengths of Sebetto, Chris Andrews would spin in turn two, setting up a two lap shoot out.

Sebetto had a lapped car separating him and Mintz on the restart, with another lapped car before third place Zablocki with Martin, Reed, Chaney and Jacobs in tow. Sebetto would hit his marks perfectly the last two laps to take the win while Mintz, Zablocki, Martin and Chaney would round out the top five.

“When you lead that long and I saw Mintz was up to second…I knew I had to hit my marks down in one and two. Those last two laps I really tip-toed into the corner and made sure I didn’t drive it through the cushion. I kept screwing up down there and I kept trying different entries and it seemed like I couldn’t hit the right one. Every time I tried a different entry I got the same result…I was plowing through the cushion,” said Sebetto of his late race restart.

Saldana Relies on Experience to Claim Autodrome Drummond

Saldana Relies on Experience to Claim Autodrome Drummond

Dollansky rides podium finish to World of Outlaws championship standings lead

DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec — July 28, 2012 — A night after experience beat him, Joey Saldana repaid the favor.

Saldana capitalized on his knowledge and patience to maneuver around James McFadden late in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series feature Saturday at Autodrome Drummond, where he earned his fifth feature win of the season and 83rd career with the Outlaws.

“Last night, racing Sammy, I think I got beat because he had the experience,” said Saldana, who finished second to veteran Sammy Swindell on Friday at Autodrome Granby. “Tonight, for me, I won the race because just the experience and just seeing where the cars were and being able to know, ‘Hey, I needed to make sure I was on the bottom coming off of (turn) two to get a good run.’ I would say experience definitely helped me tonight.”

Saturday’s event was only the third for the World of Outlaws at the 4/10-mile track, where Craig Dollansky established a new track record in qualifying. Dollansky capped the night by finishing third in a three-way battle for the lead down the stretch of the main event.

“We were close and would have loved to get a win tonight,” he said. “In the grand scheme of things it was a great night for us. It was a fun race. There was a lot going on. (We were) just a couple spots short.”

Dollansky’s success coupled with a crash involving the championship standings leader Steve Kinser pushed Dollansky into the points lead for the first time this season. He now holds a 12-point advantage over Kinser as the top five are separated by only 51 points.

For most of the 35-lap feature, it was Saldana and McFadden in command with the newbie setting the pace. McFadden, the defending World Series Sprintcar champion in Australia, darted from fourth to second in the opening turns and then slid Saldana for the lead in turn three of the opening lap.

“I knew those guys would race hard in the first corner and I just thought I’d be conservative and hit the bottom,” McFadden said. “It worked out for us.”

He set a blistering pace and entered traffic less than a half-dozen laps into the main event. However, a caution on lap 10 bunched the field together and McFadden chose the inside lane on the double-file restart.

Saldana rocketed to the lead by the time they reached the flag stand, but it was erased when Tony Stewart Racing teammates Donny Schatz and Kinser collided while racing for fifth place at the end of the frontstretch. Schatz ended a series of violent flips in the infield and Kinser was unable to continue after sustaining too much damage.

McFadden held onto the top spot on the ensuing restart and Saldana maintained second place within a handful of car lengths during the next dozen laps. The duo entered traffic on lap 15 and Saldana began to reel in McFadden shortly after the midpoint of the feature.

On lap 25, McFadden was trapped in the outside lane in turn two as he tried to lap Etienne Girard. Saldana capitalized and squeezed into the lead as they exited the corner.

“He didn’t really realize the bottom coming off (turn) two,” Saldana said. “He could easily overdrive it and that’s how I got him in lapped traffic. He just kept overdriving (turn) two and I just kept staying patient with my car, got good runs off of (turn) two. Once I got out front I just wanted to make sure I didn’t overdrive it.”

Michael Parent flipped after colliding with Girard in turn two with four laps remaining to set up a late restart. Saldana choose the outside lane and got away clean, with McFadden edging Dollansky at the checkered flag.

“Those guys are my heroes and I’ve grown up watching those guys, so to race wheel to wheel with them and be competitive is a pretty good feeling,” McFadden said.

Kerry Madsen spun in turn three on the final lap while running fourth, which moved Cody Darrah to fourth place and Kraig Kinser to fifth. Kinser earned the KSE Hard Charger Award after starting 13th.

Bill Rose finished a season-best sixth, Swindell was seventh, Chad Kemenah eighth, Madsen ninth and Jessica Zemken rounded out the top 10.

Brady Bacon tops West Coast Rivals!

Bacon tops West Coast Rivals

Bryan Hulbert – Hanford, California (July 28, 2012) Brady Bacon notched his fifth victory of the season Saturday night at Kings Speedway in Hanford, California with a thrilling last lap drag race with Jason Myers.

“I got really fortunate in that race” commented Bacon on the front straight. “We were having a fuel issue especially those last ten laps after those restarts. It was just spurting and spitting so I was just hoping and trying not to slip off the bottom and hold on to the end of the race.”

Starting the race from the front row, Bacon would settle for the runner up spot early on as Wayne Johnson took off from the pole. Slowing for a caution for Gary Wright with twenty-nine laps to run, Bacon would keep pace with the City Vending No. 77x as the field rolled back to life.

Moving into slower traffic by lap seven, Bacon would fully commit to the inside groove as Wayne Johnson began having to search for lines around slower cars. Putting back markers amongst the leaders, the fight for the top five would tighten up as Jason Johnson ran third with Jason Myers and Kyle Hirst in a continuing battle for fourth and fifth.

Getting the run as the field raced to the halfway point in the night’s thirty lap affair, the Fatheadz Eyewear No.99 would see his persistence pay off with the pass for the race lead. Falling back to second, Johnson would begin to fall in the line-up; slipping back to fifth before nearly getting upside down.

Forcing the caution with ten laps to run, Johnson would return to the race after a visit to the work area.

Restarting for the final ten laps, the cautions would continue with the yellow lights coming back on for the stalled Shawn Wright with twenty-two laps complete then again on lap twenty five when Mike Faria and Tommy Tarlton both came to a stop at opposite ends of the track.

Green for the final five laps, the battle in the top three would get dicey as Jason Johnson and Jason Myers each had broken front wings. Running second on the restart, the AccuDoc Solutions No. 41 would finally see the Corporate American Lending No. 21m of Myers able to muscle by with two laps remaining.

Despite a flat front wing and an almost ten car length disadvantage, the Clovis, California racer was on a mission with the white flag waving. Pulling within two car lengths exiting turn two for the final time, Myers would roll even with Bacon in turns three and four but it would be Brady Bacon holding on to the west coast win.

Jason Myers and Jason Johnson would complete the podium with Kyle Hirst and tenth starting Brad Loyet rounding out the top five.

Earning the PitstopUSA.com Hard Charge of the night, Jason Statler climbed from twentieth to sixth with Dustin Morgan charging from thirteenth to seventh. Seth Bergman would come from fifteenth to eighth with Steven Tiner and Craig Stidham finishing out the top ten.
