ST. HELENA, Calif. (October 8, 2018) – Rico Abreu’s weekend off did absolutely no harm to the St. Helena, Calif., native, eventually getting back behind the wheel of a sprint car on Friday, October 5, for the Short Track Championships at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway.

The decision to join the MOWA Sprint Car Series proved beneficial, ultimately earning his third victory of the 2018 season, his first under the MOWA banner, by utilizing a late-race restart to drive around three competitors in one corner to take command. The winning move occurred with just five circuits remaining, diamonding off of turn two to do so.

Abreu’s MOWA win joins a list that includes two World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victories in 2018; the Ironman 55 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 and the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

“That was so much fun,” Rico Abreu explained, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car. “Anytime you race on a tight, 1/4-mile oval like that, anything can happen. You sometimes have to slow down to be fast and that is exactly what we did. It was a great way to start the weekend. Too bad that was our only start.”

Rico Abreu’s plan to end the recent weekend with All Star Circuit of Champions competition at Kokomo Speedway on Saturday, October 6, was disrupted by Mother Nature. The event was cancelled and will not be rescheduled.

Up next on the schedule, Rico Abreu will return to California and join the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT) for the Cotton Classic at Keller Auto Speedway on Saturday, October 13. The 360 sprint car event will join an evening card that also includes King of the West-NARC 410 Series action and the WRS 305 Sprints.

In addition, the ‘Wild Child’ Jac Haudenschild will join the Rico Abreu Racing stable and compete in a second car during the SCCT program at Keller Auto Speedway.
