ST. HELENA, Calif. (September 24, 2018) – Rico Abreu’s two-day campaign at the world-famous Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, was up and down, to say the least, highlighting the prestigious 4-Crown Nationals blockbuster with a top-ten performance against the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Friday, September 21.

Unfortunately, Abreu’s weekend at The Big E was cut short. After making contact with a stopped car during USAC National Midget Series warm-ups on Saturday night, Abreu was taken to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation. Everything checked out and Abreu was released, cleared to return to competition.

“I appreciate everyone that took the time to reach out to me in one way or another after my crash,” Rico Abreu said, who was piloting a car for Keith Kunz Motorsports during the Midget portion of the 4-Crown Nationals program. “I was cleared and released from the hospital pretty quick. The infield care center recommended that I get further evaluation and I’m glad I did. I’m just really disappointed for my fans. That was the second 4-Crown in a row that I had to leave Eldora Speedway in an ambulance.”

Although ending the weekend on a rough note, Friday’s BeFour The Crowns Showdown appearance with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series ended inside the top ten, actually advancing from 21st to finish 9th after 30 green flag laps. Forced to do things the hard way, the pilot of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil Products/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprinter started in row 12 after not transferring through his respective heat race, moving on to win the evening’s Last Chance Showdown to qualify for the $10,000-to-win main event.

Currently, Rico Abreu’s upcoming plans remain uncertain. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via social media for continuing updates.
