ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 3/29/15 – Brian Montieth lived up to his nickname “The Edge” as he blasted around the outside on the high-banks of Lincoln Speedway during the early stages of Sunday’s 25-lap 410 sprint car main and then used a slide job on Greg Hodnett to assume command with 16 laps complete. Montieth then had to fend off challenges from Hodnett following a late race restart before posting his 45th career Lincoln Speedway feature win.

It was the second Sunday program of the season after bad weather on Saturday forced track owners to utilize the Sunday raindate.

Montieth lined up fifth following a first lap lineup rework following a red flag for a multi car pileup in turn two after Robbie Kendall spun and collected Mike Bittinger, Glenndon Forsythe, Tyler Ross and Scott Fisher.

Polesitter Austin Hogue led lap one before third-starting Hodnett powered by off the second turn to take control.

Hodnett, who won the Icebreaker 30 season opener two weeks ago, set a torrid pace on the top side of the speedway as Hogue, Brent Marks and Montieth were locked in a tight battle for the runner-up spot.

Montieth rocketed from fourth spot into second during the 12th lap after driving by Marks in turn two and then blasting around Hogue to take second.

“I just got lucky,” said the Phoenixville driver after earning $3,200 for the Jerry Parrish owned team. “I knew Greg was going to be tough because he wasn’t happy about that restart lineup and neither was I.”

“The inside row isn’t where you wanted to be. I knew I had to do something. For what the weather is, Fred (Putney) did a good job with the race track. Those guys are working against the weather. If you work outside, you know what I’m talking about. They are doing their best and trying to give us something to race on.”

Hodnett was working heavy lapped traffic just past the midway point of the event as Montieth chewed into his lead lap after lap.

Montieth put the race winning move on Hodnett with a slide job in turn four and emerged as the race leader with 16 laps complete.

Disaster nearly struck Montieth after he made contact with Aaron Ott in turn three, resulting in a caution for Ott.

Montieth entered turn one on the restart low as Hodnett pounded the outside looking to regain the lead. Hodnett stayed with the leader and attempted to slide in front of Montieth’s Auto Locater No. 21 in turn two on lap 22 but Montieth had the momentum and drove off the corner ahead of Hodnett and held on for the feature win.

“It (the track) started to go away and I knew the rubber was going to go away so I was going to make Greg try and go around the outside of me, as weird as that sounds,” said Montieth about the late race restart. “We’re going to try to be better this year as far as my head wise and see what we can do with it.”

“I can’t say much more about this team. A couple of weeks ago was the first I’ve sat in this thing since we last raced in October and they’ve done their homework. They make my life fun.”

Following the top two finishers were Gerard McIntyre, Jr., Hogue and Marks with Freddie Rahmer, Jim Siegel, Niki Young, Mark Smith and Cory Haas completing the top 10 finishers.

Heats for the 32 410 Sprints were won by Brent Marks, Cory Haas, Austin Hogue and Robbie Kendall. The consolation was won by Shane Hoff.

Chad Criswell started on the pole of the 25-lap Super Sportsman feature and held off a hard charging Carmen Perigo, Jr. to score his first career Super Sportsman opening day win.

Criswell held the point early over Doug Dodson and Frankie Herr and held the point through several early race yellows.

Following a lap eight restart, Herr got into the back of Dodson, sending Dodson towards the back of the field and eventually to the pits.

Perigo started sixth and moved into the runner-up spot following the mid-way portion of the race but was unable make a pass on the Martinsburg, W.V. driver.

Perigo, Herr, Steve Wilbur and Scott Geesey finished in the top five followed by Kevin Nouse, Mike Enders, Scott Dellinger, Paul Miller and Bobby Hockenberry.

Mike Enders, Carmen Perigo, Jr. and Scott Geesey were heat race winners for the 27 Super Sportsman pitside. The consolation went to Tom Wyckoff.

Bob Stough came out on top of a thrilling 15-lap Central PA Legends feature after exchanging the top spot with Chad Earnst several times over the final five circuits.

Stough took the win over Earnst, 11th starting Lucas Montgomery, Bill Diehl and early race leader Justin Mitchell.

Mason Chaney and Lucas Montgomery were the two heat winners for the 24 Central PA Legends.
