The old adage “it’s not over till it’s over” was never so true in the UFO 24th Annual Tri-Star Pittsburgher 53 in the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Models. After rain washed out the Friday night show, moving the entire show to Saturday, Gregg Satterlee Rochester Mills, PA picked up his first Pittsburgher win and second PPMS win this season in his Robbie Allen prepared machine. Keith Berner and 2012 PPMS champ Michael Norris brought the field down for the start. Berner grabbed the lead and led the first two laps. Norris took over on lap 3 and led until lap 10. On lap 11 sixth starting fast qualifier Josh Richards on an off weekend from his NASCAR Nationwide series duties returned to one of his favorite tracks and grabbed the lead. Once out front Richards opened up a lead, with Norris now in second followed by Satterlee, and Berner. Richards continued to lead, with Satterlee moving into second on lap 14. Jared Miley moved into third on lap 18 and Keith Barbara moving into fourth on lap 21. Richards got into traffic and that allowed the top four to close up. Barbara moved past Miley on lap 23, and then the pair tangled with Barbara spinning putting him to the tail. Richards, now with clear track ahead, opened up a big lead. Richards was well on his way to picking up his second Pittsburgher title, when on lap 33 Richards fine run ended while lapping Kari Gasser, as she tangled with him and he crashed ending his night. This put Satterlee up front with Miley in second, Russ King in third and Norris in fourth. A crazy restart that wasn’t a restart that saw Satterlee and Miley tangle, putting Miley pit side for the evening, and Satterlee back up front (since the green was not thrown), followed by Dave Hess, King and Norris. Norris moved into third on lap 36, while Colby Frye in his best PPMS run ever moved into fourth on lap 39. Lynn Geisler, Steve Baker and Keith Barbara battled for 5th, while Satterlee had a comfortable lead up front. Lap 45 saw Frye get a flat and tangle with Baker, which moved Geisler into 4th, and Baker and Barbara now battled for fifth. Barbara continued his charge to the front and moved into fourth past Geisler on lap 52. Baker moved past Geisler for 5th on the last lap but brushed the wall coming for the checker allowing Geisler to finish 5th. At the checker, it was Satterlee, Hess, Norris, Barbara, Geisler, Baker, Jason Covert (recovering from a lap 22 flat), Daryl Charlier, Russ King, and Tony Musolino. The heats had Josh Richards, Keith Barbara, Michael Norris and Jason Covert grab wins, while Alex Ferree picked up the B-Main win. Josh Richards was the fast qualifier at 21:718. Dusty Hamrick was the Awesome Hard Charger while Jason Covert was the K&N Performer.

The 23rd Annual Jook George Memorial for the Brougher’s Machine Shop Fastrak Pro Lates had Burgettstown PA’s Kyle Lukon pick up his second win in the event and 3rd win of the season. Kyle Lukon and 3 time PPMS winner Andrew Satterlee started on the front row for the 40 lapper, with Satterlee taking the lead at the start. Satterlee led until lap 3 when Lukon took over. Lukon led Satterlee, Colton Flinner and Joe Martin for the first leg of the caution filled race. Lap 15 would bring out the second and third restarts of the event. 2011 and 2012 champ Colton Flinner moved into second on the restart and challenged Lukon briefly. On lap 18 yet another of the 10 caution flags that dotted the event came out.
Joe Martin moved into second at that point and challenged Lukon, but again Lukon held him off. Between laps 19 and 28 Martin and Flinner swapped second back and forth, with Satterlee holding steady in 4th. At that point Martin ran solidly in second for the rest of the event. Martin would challenge Lukon on each of the remaining restarts, but after a lap Lukon would pull away, though he never had a big lead, it remained comfortable the rest of the way. At the finish it was Lukon, Martin, Flinner, Satterlee, Mike Reft, Wayne Robertson (who rallied from the tail after an early tangle), Josh Holtgraver, Tommy Schirnhofer Jr., Dennis Lunger, and Rocky Kugel. Wayne Robertson, John Garvin, and Ron Hall won the heat races while Kyle Lukon won the dash. Tommy Schirnhofer was the fast qualifier while Josh Holtgraver was the K&N Performer while Beau Glemba was dubbed with the Hard Luck Award.

The BRP Big Block Modifieds had Bristolville OH’s Rex King finally pick up his first ever PPMS win. An interesting race that saw 4 different leaders had Mike Turner lead the first lap. NY’s Randy Chrysler, who won his first ever PPMS win earlier in the season, took over on lap 2. Chrysler led the next 18 laps when another NY driver Brian Weaver took over. Weaver led until lap 26 when 9th starting King made his winning move. King led the remaining laps to take the win. King was followed by Weaver, Chrysler, Eric Gabany, Dave Murdick, Rex King Jr., Rick Rickner, Brad Rapp, Jeremiah Shingledecker, and Kevin Hoffman. Brian Weaver, Dave Murdick and Jeremiah Shingledecker took the heat wins while Randy Chrysler won the King of the Hill race.

Jack Sodeman Jr. North Jackson, OH picked up his first ever win at Pittsburgh, by grabbing the 410 Outlaw Winged Sprints 21 lap feature. Sodeman dominated the 21 lap event over a sparse field, taking the lead at the start and rolling to a half lap win over 16 time PPMS winner Ed Lynch Jr. Lynch, who made a few late race passes to move from 5th spot where he ran most of the event. Trailing the top two were Brandon Spithaler, Eric Williams, Brandon Matus, Brent Matus, Adam Anderson, Jim McMillen, and Robert Vantassel. Jack Sodeman Jr. and Eric Williams won the heats. Sodeman was also the fast qualifier.

Pat Weldon Monongahela, PA picked up his 6th win and second special of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman Late Models. A great race early between Weldon, Joey Koteles and 2012 Champ Jake Simmons had 4th starting Weldon take the lead on lap 5 and pull away for the win to pick up $1000 first place prize. Simmons ran second followed by Koteles, Brian Huchko, Craig Koteles, A.J. Poljak, Nick Kocuba (the K&N Performer), Danny Rich, Pat Hanley, and Vince Laboon. Jake Simmons and Vince Laboon took the heat wins.

Oakdale PA’s 2012 Track Champ Joe Podolinsky won his 7th win of the season over Adam Kostelnik (in the Gary Smith #1), Ed Wiser, Chase Evans, Steve Pyeritz and Hannah Ramsey. Wiser was named the K&N Performer.

The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns had Monongahela PA’s Todd Weldon do just like his dad Pat, to pick up win #9 on the season over 2012 track champ Logan Crewl, Dylan Bolind, Courtney Chamberlain, and Jacob Recker. Bolind was the K&N Performer.

Three more races remain on the 2012 PPMS Schedule, on September 22, a regular show for all classes. September 29 the Boss 410 Wingless Sprints will be back along with a complete regular show. Then the closer on the 2012 season, on October 6, the Monster Mania for the 410 Sprints, BRP Modifieds, Late Models, Crate Lates, and Sportsman classes. More details will be forthcoming. Regular shows consist of Super Late Models, Fastrak Pro Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Hobby Stocks, and Young Guns. Effective for the remainder of the season, in the event of any Saturday rainout the management will utilize a Sunday evening raindate. Times for the Sunday evening will start 1 hour earlier, with Gates opening at 4:00PM, Hot Laps at 5:00PM, and Racing at 6:00PM. For more info on PPMS Schedule see the website http://www.ppms.com/.
