At the start of the night, all five of the class’ championships were pretty much locked up by each points leader just needing to start the feature to lock up the crown and four of them went out and finished the season in victory lane on Lowe’s Kid’s night and driver’s autograph night at NAPA Wayne County Speedway. For the Fisher Performance Sprints, Millersburg’s Brad Haudenschild and Danny Mumaw would start on the front row but Mumaw’s bad luck season would strike again as he went nose over tail going into turn one on the start and end up on top of the guardrail ending his night. Jeremy Aumend would break going down the front stretch on the second attempt to get the race started. The green flag was able to wave for a little more than one lap as Nick Patterson’s #23 would come to a stop in turn two for another caution. As the race was able to get an extended green flag time, Haudenschild and his Kempthorn Automall, Fire & Ice Pub and Medi Taxi #38k would open up a good lead over Chris Myers but Myers would bring out the second red flag of the race on lap 15 when he rolled over in turn one. The last ten laps would go non stop as quick timer Haudenschild would drive to his sixth win of the season to claim his first track championship. Jason Dolick would take second as he battled off Beau Stewart for that position while Shawn Hubler grabbed fourth as Aaron Middaugh placed fifth. Heat winners were Kirk Jeffries, Chris Myers and Aaron Middaugh. Troy Kingan also flipped in the 1st heat.

Charlie Duncan would take control of the Lias Tire Late Model feature from the pole position as Shane McLoughlin and Ashland’s Ryan Markham would go back and forth for second for the first five laps when Markham took second for good. Duncan would build up a big lead but Markham and his H &T Demolition, Accu Shock and Fultz Fabriacation #5m started to reel in the fast qualifier at the halfway mark and with five to go, edged past Duncan. As both drivers went into turn four on the next circuit, both cars got extremely sideways, both almost coming to a stop before getting straightened out with Markham recovering the quickest for the lead as Duncan’s machine would slow in turn two right after that to bring out the caution. All during that time, McLoughlin and JR Gentry were wheeling and dealing for third. The restart after Duncan’s caution gave McLoughlin one last shot at Markham, who held on for his sixth win of the season and collect his fifth WCS crown. Gentry’s last lap run at McLoughlin for second came up short. Rick Bond was fourth as Eric Wilson, who was driving a crate motor powered car finished fifth. McLoughlin and Markham topped the heat races.

Numerous cautions in the early laps of the Thrifty Muffler Super Stock main kept the field bunched up as Brandon Gardner and Nick Smith were the early front runners and as the field got weeded out by the cautions, that would allow quick timer and 16th starting Larry Baldwin to move up through the field and take the lead from Gardner on lap six and then drive away from the pack to park the Randolph based, Park Ford, Midas Muffler and Baldwin Motorsports #7up in victory lane for the 8th time this season and earn his first track championship. Bob Daugherty finished second as Tyler Thompson, Butch Butcher and Darrick Hubbard Jr. filled out the top five. Winning the heat races were Thompson, Daugherty and Smith.

Greg Thompson set the pace for the opening four laps of the WQKT Mini Stock feature with pole sitter Dustin Daugherty in second but 8th starting Brad Hensel of Wooster and his Sportsman’s Bar and DJ Directional Services #28 moved past Daugherty for second on lap four and then powered past Thompson on the next lap for the lead and then held Thompson off for the rest of the race to collect his 8th checkered flag of the year and securing his first track WCS championship. Daugherty finished third with Steve Crowe out racing Kevin Markey for 4th. Daugherty and Thompson notched heat race wins.

Robbie Ledger was the only points leading driver not winning a feature on Season Championship night as a four race winning streak in the middle of the season built up enough of a point lead and his 6th place finish on Saturday night was good enough to claim the NAPA Mini Wedge title. Billy Dawson would lead the first two laps but Granger Township’s Matthew Moore would squeeze into the lead and then hold off Dawson’s last lap charge. For Moore and his Mar’s Trucking and Apache Auto Salvage #98, it was his 4th win in a row. Cody Stillion ran third as Tanner McLoughlin and JR Curry rounded out the top five. Claiming the heat wins were Dawson and Moore. Frank Oriti of Mar’s Trucking gave all the Wedge drivers tool kits at the end of the race. The Wedge drivers will receive the season championship awards during the Dirt Blowout on Saturday, September 20th.

With the Season Championship completed, the drivers were all competing for over $100,000 of Contingency Connection Awards during the season.

The next action at NAPA Wayne County Speedway will come on Sunday, August 31st with the UNOH All Star Sprints for the third time this season. Lee Jacobs and Sheldon Haudenschild have won the first two All Star features this year. The Sweeney Rush Late Models Series powered by crate motors will make their first ever visit and the Lias Tire Late Models and the Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks will also be in action.
