Jake Gomola takes advantage of Dobrosky’s misfortune to win AST main event at Thunder Mountain Speedway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

SENECA, PA (May 24, 2017) – Kittanning, Pennsylvania’s Greg Dobrosky was well on his way to an IMCA/Racesaver Allegheny Sprint Tour (AST) main event victory on Friday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway when misfortune stepped forward and intervened.

Dobrosky, a former 305 cubic inch sprint car winner during competition in Western Pennsylvania, led the AST feature field until the final corner of the final circuit. Contact with a lapped car erased Dobrosky’s advantage, as well as his position at the top of the running order. Jake Gomola inherited the top spot, eventually surviving a one lap dash to score his first IMCA/Racesaver Allegheny Sprint Tour victory of the 2017 season.

“That’s a tough deal for Greg [Dobrosky], but we’ll take what we can get,” Jake Gomola explained, full-time competitor, as well as AST promoter. “He was pretty strong the entire race. Not sure we were ever going to have anything for him. Regardless, we’re happy to get a win. Sometimes, being the guy racing in the second position proves to be more beneficial than leading a race while in traffic. This proved to be one of those cases. We’ll work for two in a row this Friday when we return to Thunder Mountain Speedway.”

The inaugural season of the IMCA/Racesaver Allegheny Sprint Tour will continue with a Memorial Day weekend doubleheader in Western Pennsylvania, this time returning to Thunder Mountain Speedway near Brookville on Friday, May 26, followed by a one night visit to Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 27. “Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile” was scheduled to host the 305ci series during opening weekend, but was washed away by Mother Nature.

Ralph Engel and Jake Gomola will enter Memorial Day weekend as the only two feature winners during Allegheny Sprint Tour competition in 2017. Gomola has finished no worse than second; finishing in the runner-up position during the season opener at Tri-City Raceway Park.
