Kraig Kinser Perseveres to Finish 10th in the Opener of the Oil City Cup in Edmonton
By Kraig Kinser Racing PR

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — August 25, 2013— It’s been said time and time again that it takes not only a fast car, but also luck in racing to compete for wins. Kraig Kinser had one of the fastest cars on the track in the opener of the Oil City Cup at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Friday, Aug. 23, but unfortunately did not have luck on his side, as he was caught up in a multi-car accident on lap-23, while running among the top-three. After his crew made repairs to his machine he was able to restart and wound up salvaging a top-10 finish at the three-eighths-mile aboard the Mesilla Valley Transportation/Casey’s General Store/King Racing Products Maxim.

Early in the race on first night of the Oil City Cup, Kinser had a spirited battle with Cody Darrah for the second position. The duo traded the spot four times officially and numerous other times unofficially, lap-after-lap. Kinser worked the low side of the track while Darrah pounded the cushion. When the checkered flag flew, the 2005 winner of the Knoxville Nationals was 10th.

Kinser was third-fastest of the 25 drivers that took to the three-eighths-mile for trials on Friday night. He lined up fourth in the third heat race and finished in that same position to earn a spot in the dash. The third-generation driver started the dash in fourth and finished second, which put him on the outside of the front row for the 30-lap A-Feature.

In the finale of the Oil City Cup on Saturday, Aug. 24, Kinser finished 11th. After falling back to 15th in the early going, he began to work his way back forward and was up to 12th by the eighth circuit. He would move up one more spot on the final lap after a car at the front of the field got into the wall. Kinser kicked-off the night by turning in the seventh-quickest lap in qualifying. He finished fifth in the first heat race, which put him 12th on the grid for the 30-lap A-Feature. The main event was slowed by two yellow flags and a red flag.

Kinser returns to action with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series next weekend at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. That two-night event begins a stretch of nine races in 10 nights in Washington, Oregon and California for the series. Kinser is currently 12th in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series standings. He was one victory this season to along with 25 top-10 finishes.

Kraig Kinser Racing would like to thank Casey’s General Stores, Mesilla Valley Transportation, King Racing Products, Maxim, Aerodine Composites, Sander Engineering, Integra Shocks, All Star Performance, FK Rod Ends, Brown & Miller Racing Solutions, Bell, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Schoenfeld Headers, Donovan Engineering, Fel-Pro, Brodix, Wilwood, Dyer’s, Barnes Systems, Ringer Gloves, Jakes Custom Golf Carts, and Ben Cook Racing Limited for their continued support.
