Ohio Sprint Car Series presented by Ohio Heating announces format, point and rule changes for 2017

CHILLICOTHE, OH (February 24, 2017) – Effective Saturday, April 1, during the 2017 season opener, the Ohio Sprint Car Series presented by Ohio Heating, celebrating its second season of open wheel competition, will enforce minor rule, format and point structure changes, each aiming to improve the overall experience for the racers and fans.

The only rule modification for 2017 is within the tire replacement rule. If a driver damages a right rear tire beyond repair between qualifying time trials and the main event, that driver may change the right rear tire, but the compound has to be identical to that which was damaged. An Ohio Sprint Car Series official must inspect the replacement. Once the tire replacement is approved, the driver will not be penalized any starting positions during the remaining racing program.

The Ohio Sprint Car Series presented by Ohio Heating championship point structure will see a subtle transformation in 2017, awarding show-up points (20), qualifying points (1st-4; 2nd-3; 3rd-2; 4th-1), and reconfigured main event points.

2017 A-main point structure:
1. 50; 2. 45; 3. 43; 4. 41; 5. 40.

Positions sixth through 20th will be awarded points 39-25,  respectively. In addition, drivers who fail to transfer into the main event will each receive twenty (20) non-transfer points.

Lastly, an updated Ohio Sprint Car Series format will be introduced beginning Saturday, April 1, which will now feature a five-lap “Fast Dash” awarding $200 on behalf of Millhone Motorsports. The top-two finishers from each Ohio Sprint Car Series heat race will transfer into the “Fast Dash.” The finishing order of the dash will set the line-up for main event competition. The “Fast Dash” line-up will be determined by a lucky fan who will conduct a blind draw on the flagstand.

“We wanted to tweak a few things before the start of the year,” Brad McCown explained, OSCS promoter. “I feel these changes will give the drivers and fans a better experience at our shows. It’s hard to believe that our season is just around the corner. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the help from all of our dedicated sponsors. We still have some partnership availability. We are seeking heat race sponsors and/or contingency awards. Those interested can contact me immediately. We are always looking for ways to extend our OSCS family.”
