BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 1, 2018) – For the second time during the month of September, Tony Stewart was well on his way to an IRA Outlaw Sprint Series triumph in the Badger State when the ‘North Pole Nightmare’ Bill Balog stepped-in and intervened, stealing the show and ultimately stealing another potential mark in Stewart’s win column.

Tony Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart Racing/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 14 sprint car, joined the IRA Outlaw Sprint Series for their season-ending Wisconsin Sprint Car Championship at the Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday and Saturday, September 28 & 29. Although Smoke’s weekend was nearly flawless, ending the two-day visit with a pair of heat race victories, as well as a pair of runner-up finishes during A-main competition, it was the Saturday night finale that created the most ruckus.

In dramatic fashion, Stewart was just a half-lap away from earning a trip to Plymouth Dirt Track victory lane when Bill Balog made, in what is becoming routine, a late-race appearance, slipping underneath Stewart as the pair raced through turns three and four on the final lap. Balog’s move proved to be just enough, beating Stewart in a drag race back to the flagstand to earn the IRA finale victory worth $6,000.

Stewart climbed from 10th to earn his runner-up finish during the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championship opener on Friday, pounding the cushion and nearly taking control over race leader, Scotty Thiel, with just two circuits remaining.

“We are becoming more and more comfortable with Plymouth. We enjoy racing there,” Tony Stewart said, a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. “Not matter how things unfold, you never want to get beat, especially after being as dominate as we were during most of that feature on Saturday. Congrats to Bill (Balog) and his entire team. He’s really hard to beat in that area and it showed on Saturday night. We’ll head back to the shop, regroup and get ready for the next one.”

Tony Stewart’s upcoming plans remain uncertain. Fans are encouraged to stay alert online, as well as on social media, as official plans will be announced later in the week.
