Wheatley Returning to Calistoga Speedway for First Time Since 2011
Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (March 31, 2014) – After taking last weekend off because of the high threat of weather in California, Austen Wheatley will return to “The Golden State” this Saturday and Sunday.
Wheatley will race for only the second time at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., during the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series doubleheader this Saturday and Sunday.
“I’ve heard good things about what they have done with the track,” he said. “I’m looking forward to getting there and checking it out.”
Wheatley’s lone race at the half-mile track was in 2011, when he qualified 24th quickest, advanced from eighth to sixth place in his heat race and ended 22nd in the main event.
“We made the show,” he said. “The track was really narrow and it was really rough.”
With the publicized improvements to the facility and track, Wheatley said he is optimistic that this weekend’s competition at the big track could jumpstart his season.
“I think I’m more of a short-track guy, but I’ve been struggling on hooked up, fast places lately for whatever reason,” he said. “Smooth and slick is kind of my style, but it’s hard to find that on the West Coast. It will definitely be a weekend to strive for improvement.”
