At A Glance: Logan Schuchart Takes First Swing at Clay County, Deer Creek
Brad Sweet penalized for violating rule 11.0-L at Silver Dollar Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. – Sept. 10, 2014 – The World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series heads back to the Upper Midwest this week as it takes on the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout at Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa on Sept. 12 and Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. for the ASGROW/DEKALB Clash at the Creek on Sept. 13.

For Logan Schuchart, a 2014 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year contender, 2014 has been a series of firsts with his Shark Racing team as the driver has made starts at tracks across the country that he had never raced on before. This includes the upcoming events at Clay County and Deer Creek. We asked Schuchart about his rookie season:

How do you prepare for tracks you’ve never been to?

“We just have some basic stuff that we do. We try to go look at the track to see if it’s anywhere similar to anywhere we’ve run before. Then we write some notes down, that way we know for next year, or if it’s somewhere we’re going back to.

“That’s all this year was – overcoming the learning curve and trying to get better for next year. We’re learning, we’re getting better, we’re getting experience. And we’re trying to be more prepared for next year with the racecars and our knowledge of race tracks.”

You recently started running a new chassis, how has that helped your team?

” We’ve been better since we started running XXX Chassis. They’re going to help us out, we’re going to run their stuff next year, Jacob and I. It was right around when we put their stuff together that we seemed to be faster… We’re running better, we want to help them out, make them look good and make ourselves look good too.”

What have the challenges of running a full schedule been this season?

“Our biggest challenge has been to make it to the end of the year. The money thing – we thought we were in pretty decent shape at the end of the year with motors and then we had a couple of things happen that shouldn’t have happened that were our fault. The truck breaking down a couple of times – we’re still mad we missed one race at Pevely, Mo. To have fans come up and ask if we’re doing the whole Outlaw thing and we’ve got to tell them that we missed one race, I hate that. I’ll be happy that we make it to the end of the year and it looks like that’s going to happen.”

What does it mean to you to be making your first full season campaign with your family, including your grandfather Bobby Allen?

“It’s an awesome experience to be able to do this with my grandpa and Jacob. I’m close with both of them. I’ve raced with Jacob my whole life. Obviously my Grandpa is the one who got me into racing. I raced at his go-kart track when I was little, all the way up to now. It’s definitely been a lot fun.”
