Big Game Motorsports Heads to Canada After Another Consistent Week

Inside Line Promotions – MINOT, N.D. (Aug. 20, 2013) – Big Game Motorsports teammates Craig Dollansky and Sammy Swindell are excited to return to Castrol Raceway this weekend.

Following another consistent week with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, the Eyecon Trail Cameras and Big Game Treestands cars head to the 3/8-mile oval in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Friday and Saturday for the Oil City Cup, which Big Game Motorsports swept last season.

“It was nice up there,” said Swindell, who also set a new track record during his first race at Castrol Raceway. “The people are really enthused about us being there and we had a good time. Hopefully we can get close to doing what we did there last year. We’ve got to put everything together.”

Swindell and Dollansky each notched a pair of top 10s in a trio of events last week with the premier sprint car series. It started a week ago Tuesday at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb., for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown.

Swindell qualified the Big Game Treestands car sixth quickest and finished fourth in his heat race to lock himself into the feature on the ultra-fast track. Dollansky timed the Eyecon Trail Cameras car in ninth quickest and won his heat to advance to the dash, which he finished eighth.

“There wasn’t a whole lot of passing,” Dollansky said. “It would have been nice to have a yellow flag.”

Dollansky placed seventh on the narrow track and Swindell maneuvered from 12th to ninth.

“At McCool Junction it was almost wide open,” Swindell said. “There wasn’t much you could do. There wasn’t any race track to go anywhere. We just had a high-speed train. I think all the cars I passed were on the first lap, mostly in the first corner.”

The Big Game Motorsports teammates headed to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., on Friday for the second of two races this season at the high-banked oval.

The Eyecon Trail Cameras car qualified seventh quickest and finished second in a heat race to make the dash, which Dollansky placed sixth in. Swindell and the Big Game Treestands car qualified 18th quickest to narrowly miss the heat race inversion. Swindell then finished sixth in his heat race and was forced to compete in the Last Chance Showdown, which he won.

“We were a little off for the practice,” he said. “On those little tracks it doesn’t take but less than a tenth to be from the top five to out of the top 15. That’s what happened to us. We were barely off and was 18th. Then you start on the inside again in the heat race and it was still greasy on the bottom, so it wasn’t the place to start. There wasn’t much passing there.”

The action picked up in the feature as Swindell rallied from 18th to place 12th and Dollansky picked up a position to earn his 18 th top-five result of the season.

“There was a lot of lapped traffic in that race,” Dollansky said. “There was a lot of racing back and forth with the top five. I was surprised to see the white flag when it came out. It seemed the race was over quickly.”

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Nodak Speedway, where Swindell again timed in sixth quickest and finished fourth in his heat race. The Big Game Treestands car then advanced from 12th to 10th in the main event, giving Swindell his 34th top-10 finish of the season.

“If you got off the line it was like you stopped and had to start over,” he said. “I got caught in the middle a time or two and would lose some spots. I ran up on a lapped car late in the race that had been running the top. I went to go under him and he moved down. We just stopped and lost a couple of spots in one corner and got another 10th-place finish.”

Dollansky didn’t fare as well. The Eyecon Trail Cameras car qualified 22nd quickest and ended fifth in the heat race. After starting 20th in the main event, Dollansky worked his way into the top 10 before the car ran out of fuel on the final lap. It dropped him to a 16 th-place finish.

“At Minot we were slow in hot laps and slow in qualifying,” he said. “We didn’t have very good speed. Then we drove by 12 race cars and got ourselves into the top 10 and ran out of fuel. I’m not exactly sure why.”

Dollansky remains fourth in the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship standings with Swindell in fifth.
