Big Game Motorsports in Contention with World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series

Inside Line Promotions – WEST LEBANON, N.Y. (July 23, 2013) – Big Game Motorsports drivers Craig Dollansky and Sammy Swindell were in contention for a couple of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series victories during a busy week.

The Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., kicked off the action with a doubleheader last Tuesday.

Swindell and the Big Game Treestands car qualified 12th quickest and won a heat race to advance to the dash, which he finished seventh in. That started him on the inside of the fourth row for the first of twin, 30-lap features on the heavy track.

“The first race went pretty good,” said Swindell, who finished 11th. “It was a new car. We were a little bit loose with the car. We made some changes with the second (feature) and I was a little bit better.”

Lead-lap drivers were inverted for the second feature, which Swindell started ninth. He rallied to reach the runner-up position and the Big Game Treestands car was in a tight battle for the lead in the closing laps.

“When I started to make my move the thing started running out of fuel,” he said after placing third. “It let another car get by us so we wound up third. That was a pretty good gain for us. The car has been good these last few races.”

Dollansky, who was the defending Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup overall champion, didn’t have as good of a night in the Eyecon Trail Cameras car.

“Going into Silver Cup we had high hopes,” he said. “It’s been a good track for us. We were obviously lacking speed and qualified 29th. That put us in a hole for the whole night. I had to use a provisional to get into the main.”

Dollansky charged from 25th to 17th in the first feature. After the second main event was inverted, the Eyecon Trail Cameras car lined up on the inside of the second row.

“We were hanging in there for a long time,” he said. “I pulled the wing back once and then I pulled it a second time and pulled it back too far. We just pretty much struggled the entire night. It was unfortunate.”

Dollansky held on for a 12th-place finish in the final feature.

After Friday’s opening event for the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was cancelled because of rain, the Eyecon Trail Cameras team started Saturday on the right foot.

“Given the field of cars that were there we had a good, solid night,” Dollansky said. “We got qualified well. We had a front row starting spot for the dash. In the A Main we got ourselves up to fourth and again we were running the high side. Everybody was right there in the top five or six and the bottom rubbered up and everybody had to drop to the bottom. I just rode the rest of the race in fifth place.”

Dollansky’s fifth-place result was his 14th top five of the season.

Swindell was doomed from the time he drew his qualifying position.

“At Williams Grove we were at a big disadvantage being the next to last one out,” he said. “We made some changes and probably went the wrong way with the car for the heat. I’m not sure we ever had it exactly close. It was just a big mountain we never really overcame.”

After qualifying 21st quickest and racing his way into a transfer position through the Last Chance Showdown, Swindell and the Big Game Treestands car struggled to a 26th-place finish in the feature.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway, where Dollansky qualified second quickest and Swindell third quickest.

Both drivers maneuvered from fourth to third place in their heat races and advanced to the dash, which the Big Game Treestands car placed third with the Eyecon Trail Cameras car one position behind to start the Big Game Motorsports teammates on the second row for the main event.

“Lebanon Valley was better,” Swindell said. “On one restart Joey (Saldana) decided to start on the bottom. All the other races were won from the outside. He kinda bobbled and it pushed me into the bottom going into turn one. I went from running three wide for the lead to probably fifth. We finally passed Joey right before he blew his tire.”

Swindell finished fifth, which was his 13th top five of the year.

Dollansky maintained a top five for most of the race before settling for an eighth-place result.

“We had a good solid night going all the way through,” he said. “We got a decent start, but got put up over the cushion in turn one and lost a couple of spots. We had a fairly long green and we were riding fifth. My motor stumbled on a restart and put us in the hole even further. I’m not real happy with the result at a track that’s been good to us.”

Next up, Big Game Motorsports and the World of Outlaws will tackle Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y., on Tuesday before a tripleheader in Canada. The Canadian swing includes a race at Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, on Saturday before the second-ever visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway in Cornwall, Ontario, on Sunday. Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, wraps up the Canadian swing on Tuesday, July 30, for the Arrow Express Cup.
