FREMONT, Ohio – Fremont Speedway and Crown Battery will honor the memory of the late Alex Burkett with a rich Australian Pursuit Saturday.

The 8-lap race featuring the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints will carry a total purse of $5,000 and pay the winner $2,000 and pays $200 just to start the event. The top six qualifiers who transfer into the night’s feature through their heats will be in the Pursuit with the final two spots being Crown Battery provisionals.

The rules for the Australian Pursuit are simple. The cars will line up single file. When the green flag waves, if a car is passed they are eliminated from competition.

“This is the fifth anniversary of the passing of Alex Burkett. Alex was a huge supporter of racing and of Fremont Speedway through his work at Crown Battery. We are honored that his family and Crown Battery have continued their involvement in racing and Fremont Speedway. This event used to be run weekly years and years ago and it’s something unique for our new fans,” said Rich Farmer, Fremont Speedway Promoter.

Also, Crown Battery will offer free tickets to the night’s racing for the company’s nearly 500 employees. Also, each employee will get a ticket to the races for a guest.

Saturday is also Bike Night. The paved parking lot off of the Rawson Avenue entrance to the fairgrounds – adjacent to the fairboard office – will be designated parking for motorcycles. Every motorcycle rider who parks there will receive a general admission coupon to get into the races for just $10.

Not only are the 410 sprints in action Saturday but joining them will be the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints, AAA Ohio Auto Club Dirt Trucks and the Surfin’ Sweepstakes Sports Compacts.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7 p.m.
