Marks Earns First Two Top 10s with World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series

Inside Line Promotions – MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 21, 2013) – Last weekend ranks up there as one of the best for Brent Marks, who recorded his first two top 10s with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

Marks finished a career-best sixth on Thursday at the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., where he continued his streak of heat race victories with his ninth in a row. He capped the weekend that was plagued with rain by winning his heat race and placing ninth in the feature at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday.

“We had a really solid weekend,” he said. “I’m definitely very, very impressed with how we ran. We had a lot of fun. We made it in the dash both nights. It was a fun weekend.

“We’ve always had very, very, very terrible luck at the Outlaws shows in the past. To run with them like we did this past weekend was fantastic for us.”

After the Gettysburg Clash was postponed from Wednesday, Marks qualified 16th quickest to earn the final spot in the heat race inversion. That placed him on the pole of his heat race, which he won to extend his winning streak to nine consecutive at the 3/8-mile oval.

That earned Marks a spot in the dash, which he finished eighth after starting 10th. Just like in the dash, Marks picked up two positions in the first half of the feature. As he was making a move into the top five, the caution flag was waved.

“The track was a little racy in the beginning, but the top groove started to go away,” Marks said. “In the beginning that was the preferred line. It was hard to make any passes. I moved down probably halfway through the race. The bottom started to come in and I passed a couple of cars. I was getting ready to pass Brad Sweet for a top five and the yellow came out. Then everybody knew the bottom was the way to go and everybody moved down.”

Marks held on to the sixth position to record his career-best result with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series, which he raced with the following night at Williams Grove Speedway.

Once again, Marks hit the heat race invert perfectly by qualifing 16th quickest. It put him on the inside front row for his heat race and again, Marks led the distance for the win.

“We were definitely biting our nails both nights,” he said. “I don’t like to be on the bubble there for the invert. We got lucky and were able to start on the pole, and won both heat races again.”

The team experimented with a different setup in the dash, which Marks finished where he started – 10th. He maintained a top 10 throughout the entire feature before cashing in on ninth place.

“In the feature I was pretty decent,” he said. “I was able to get up through there a little further and then got passed. We just missed the setup a little bit.

“We learned a bunch of stuff for next time out with the Outlaws shows. All we’ve got to do is time trial better and position ourselves through the heat races.”

Saturday’s Morgan Cup was rained out at Williams Grove Speedway.

Marks has a busy week scheduled beginning on Tuesday with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series for the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Classic at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J. He will then compete on Friday at Lincoln Speedway, Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway and Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., for the Ray Tilley Classic.
