Marks Ranks Fourth in Points One Third of the Way Through PA Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – MINERSVILLE, Pa. (July 1, 2013) – Brent Marks is feeling confident a third of the way through the PA Speedweek.

He sits fourth in points – only 10 out of second place – after a trio of events last weekend. With Monday being the only off-day between nine consecutive races at seven tracks, Marks said consistency will determine his fate.

“My biggest thing is consistency,” he said. “I’m happy if we have a top-five finish every night. If you have a consistent car every night then the wins will come. If we can continue this consistency throughout Speedweek we can pick a couple off and maybe get that championship, which would be huge for us.”

Marks opened the PA Speedweek last Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where he qualified 10th quickest and finished second in his heat race.

“We had a pretty good night at the Grove,” he said. “We got really lucky this weekend with the rain. It just missed us there at Williams Grove, but we got a little shower earlier in the day. It kept the track heavy all night.”

Marks then charged from seventh to fourth in the feature to kick off Speedweek competition with a top-five finish.

“I felt like I had a better car then fourth,” he said. “With the way the track was, it was heavy all night long and we just missed it on gearing. But it was a great night to start Speedweek.”

Marks qualified seventh quickest, but narrowly missed a top-two finish in his heat race the following night at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. With the top-two finishers in each heat race advancing into the feature redraw, Marks was relegated to start 12th after placing third in his heat.

“We missed the redraw position in the heat race,” he said. “I had a right rear tire seal up on me during a caution. I was very, very frustrated to miss the redraw.”

Marks again moved forward in the feature, which he finished eighth.

“We had one restart when the guys in front didn’t get going,” he said. “We got bottled up and it knocked our front wing back. It affected our car a little bit. It was kind of a disappointing run. I wish we would have done a little bit better.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Big Diamond Speedway, where Marks qualified seventh quickest and won his heat race to advance to the feature redraw.

“We went out very late in time trials and were able to get seventh,” he said. “Then we got in the inversion and were able to start third in the feature.”

Marks finished where he started – third – in the main event to earn his 14th top-five finish of the season.

“Big Diamond is a tough track to pass on,” he said. “They have really weird dirt up there. We were able to battle Stevie Smith for second on a couple of restarts, but couldn’t get it to stick. We were able to come home with a podium finish, which is great.”

Speedweek continues on Tuesday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., before a trip to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., on Wednesday. Marks and his fellow competitors will return to Lincoln Speedway on Thursday and Williams Grove Speedway on Friday before Saturday’s event at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa. Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., hosts the Speedweek finale on Sunday.

“I’d love to get a win or two here throughout the rest of the week,” he said. “It’s a tough deal, especially later in the week. We’ll be happy if we keep our consistency up.”
