After a couple days of rain that left the NAPA Wayne County Speedway in moist and fast condition, clear skies greeted the racers and fans for the Summer Sizzler for the Fisher Performance Sprints on Hall’s Auto Sales night. The evening started with Andrew Palker posting the fast time for the fifth time this season during the Dzguan Fire & Rescue qualifying and after Lee Jacobs, Danny Mumaw and Stuart Williams won the heats, Rob Chaney and Mumaw would lead the field to the green flag. Chaney, making his first appearance of the season at NAPA WCS, would bolt into the lead but things were slowed on lap three when Jason Dolick spun and on the restart, the red flag would appear when last chance winner Shawn Hubler flipped in turn one.

The race would resume with Chaney being chased by Mumaw and with lapped traffic coming into play on lap eight, Chaney hesitated going down the backstretch on how to pass the slower car and when he went high, Mumaw dove to the low side of turn three with a daring slide and came out of turn four with the lead. Also during this time frame, ninth starting Travis Philo, who jumped the cushion during qualifying and tipped over on his side, was on the move by doing some close quarters passing of Palker and Lee Jacobs to move into fourth on lap ten. At the ten to go mark, Philo would power past Stewart Brubaker for third as the caution would fly on the next circuit for Jacobs when he stopped on the track with no brakes. As the race went back to green, Mumaw of Wooster and his Hitchcock Excavating, Mumaw Tree & Stump Service and Coblentz Trucking #16 would build up and eight car length lead over Chaney but once again lapped traffic approached in the last three laps and this time Chaney was able to close in but as the checkered flag waved Mumaw had a car lenghth lead over Chaney for his fourth win of the year and pocket the $2,500 winners share and if he can win at Fremont Speedway on Saturday 7th, will pick up a $1,000 bonus. Philo finished third with Palker and Brubaker following.

Another action packed feature for the Thrifty Muffler Super Stocks saw Bob Daugherty pop into the lead from the outside front row to set the pace until he went off the backside of the back stretch on lap six that allowed Todd Werntz to take the lead with Brandon Gardner into second as Daugherty fell back to third followed closely by Chase Alexander and Medina’s Larry Baldwin. Gardner edged past Werntz on lap eight as Daugherty, Alexander and fast qualifier Baldwin were bunched together and as those three tried to get pass a slower car, Alexander made contact with the lapped car and sent it spinning off the track with Alexander being charged with the caution and sent to the tail on lap 11. With three laps to go, Baldwin and his Midas, Baldwin Motorsports ‪#‎7up‬ roared past Daugherty and Werntz for second and set sail for Gardner who had a five car length lead. Heading into turn three for the final time, Baldwin squeezed to the low side of Gardner and as they came out of turn four side by side, Baldwin out dragged Gardner to the line to post his third victory of the season. Daugherty held on to third as the three heat winners finished 1,2 and 3. Werntz claimed fourth as eighth starting Brandon Craver grabbed fifth. Dennis Amstutz led the way in the last chance race.

Mark Gardiner grabbed the lead from the outside front row of the NAPA Modified feature but pole sitter Josh Morrow would reclaim the point on lap four but his time at the front was a short lived three laps when he went pitside during a lap six caution. A lap before that, Danville’s Nathan Loney, who was the fast qualifier, took second from fellow heat winner Gardiner to inherit the lead and he would not be challenged for the win as he put the Rich’s Body Shop and The Hangout Bar & Grill #10 into victory lane for the second time. Gardiner held off a pesky Larry Holbrook for second as Hilton Eppley and Bruce Miller rounded out the top five.

A pair of #1’s set on the front row of the WQKT Mini Stock main with Wooster’s Jason Shaw and Doug Hensel in those two cars but Greg Thompson would run second to Shaw at the drop of the green. Thompson’s run on Shaw would come to a halt at the halfway mark when his ride came to a stop in turn four. With the green flag waving, a lot of bumper tag was going on to get into the top five as Shaw and his Finishline Motors #1 would build up a lead as Hensel would drop with mechanical issues with three to go as Mitch Lang would drop from second with two to go and finish out of the top five. Don Rufener III would finish second as Lester Berry claimed third with Don Rufener II finishing fourth followed by Logan Martin. Heat wins were claimed by Hensel and Thompson.

Coshocton’s Braxton Wilson swept the Mini Wedge action as he won the heat race and went flag to flag aboard the Morehouse Logging, A&B Construction and Rubber Duck Engines #28 for his first NAPA WCS win. Logan Duncan finished second for the fifth time while Kryssa Beagle took home third ahead of last weeks winner, Billy Dawson, as Brooke Dawson filled out the top five.
Season Championship and Kid’s Night is set for next Friday night, August 16th at NAPA Wayne County Speedway.
