National Dirt Racing League Adds ‘Pittsburgher’ to 2013 Mini-Series

Pittsburgh, PA (January 19, 2013) The National Dirt Racing League has added the ‘Pittsburgher’ to their 2013 mini-series schedule. The 25th Annual Silver Anniversary ‘Pittsburgher’ will be held on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA, moving from its traditional September weekend.

‘We are ecstatic to be working with Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway on this years ‘Pittsburgher’, NDRL President Jason Shank said. ‘The ‘Pittsburgher’ is a race I grew up with and the fact that we will be presenting the 25th Annual Silver Anniversary ‘Pittsburgher’ is an honor for the NDRL. Our original plan was to feature our standard $20,000 to-win purse but with it being the 25th Anniversary, we decided to bump the winners share of the purse up to $25,000 to commemorate the unique milestone.’ Shank continued, ‘NDRL’s decision to move the event to the October 11th and 12th weekend was purely a business decision. We felt with that weekend being one of the very few weekends that neither national touring series is in action, it would entice national talent to compete for over $100,000 in total purse money.

‘It has always been a goal of Miley Motor Sports to elevate the ‘Pittsburgher’ back to a National event,’ PPMS owner Matt Miley claimed. ‘After 43 years in this business, we have realized it often takes patience, timing, and the right people to be involved. When National Dirt Racing League officials approached Miley Motor Sports about making the ‘Pittsburgher’ a national event again, we were all ears. We have watched what Kennedy Motorsports has done over the past racing season and felt they were a great fit to return the ‘Pittsburgher’ to a major super late model event. One week later we had a deal.’

The 25th edition of the ‘Pittsburgher’ will return to its original 100 lap format and will be preceded by the $10,000 to-win, ‘Let’s Get Dirty 50’ on Friday, October 11 that will be co-sanctioned with the Kennedy Motorsports United Late Model Series (ULMS). The NDRL sanctioned $25,000 to-win ‘Pittsburgher 100’ will be run on Saturday, October 12. Both events will also feature the United Emod Series (UEMS) as an undercard while the stars of the UEMS battle for $1,500 to-win on Friday and $3,000 to-win on Saturday.

‘We are very excited to be part of the ‘new’ Pittsburgher weekend,’ ULMS Series Director Chris Zuver said. ‘We’ve co-sanctioned the event for the last few years and now to be part of night one with the NDRL and this historical weekend is a true honor. It is mega event for dirt late model racing and dirt emod racing in western Pennsylvania and to help restore the Pittsburgher back to its prominence of a national event is very humbling.’
