SWEENEY RUSH $4,000 TO-WIN “STEEL CITY 100” PRESENTED BY BILSTEIN SUNDAY AT PITTSBURGH IN REGION’S 1ST EVER 100-LAP EVENT; “STEEL CITY ROULETTE” TO OFFER ADDITIONAL CASH PRIZES
June 5, 2014
(By Mike Leone)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Imperial, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series is primed for a huge weekend. After Saturday’s “Bill Hendren Memorial” at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, action shifts to Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway for the inaugural “Steel City 100” event on Sunday (June 8) presented by Bilstein Shock Absorbers. Race time begins early at 6 p.m.

The history-making event will be the first ever 100-lap feature in what will be the eighth-year history of Crate Late Models in the Northeast! The event is the richest on the 2014 slate with a minimum of $4,000 going to the feature winner. The race will also feature an expanded starting field of 30 cars on “The Monster Half-Mile”!

“We’ve always wanted to do a 100-lap Tour event,” stated RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “The logistics and timing just never seemed to work out. It started as a simple mention and days later the ball got rolling, and next thing you know it worked out with what should be a really good date. Pittsburgh won’t host any circle track racing on Saturday night due to their monster truck show. We have to thank Bilstein for their sponsorship to make this event possible.”

In addition to the rich payoff that includes $300 to-start, the “Steel City Roulette” will feature a potential $5,000 in cash giveaways to the 30-event starters! One lucky driver in the starting field will win a $1,000 bonus with each driver receiving at least a $50 bonus (see potential bonus monies posted below)!

RUSH has been raising the $5,000 goal through the sale of lap sponsors for the 100-lap event at $50 per lap. The monies will be pooled together and each driver that qualifies for the feature will draw a number during driver introductions with the number one being the $1,000 prize! A limited number of laps still remain (see list below); if interested in sponsoring a lap, please contact the RUSH office at 724-964-9300 or e-mail info@rushracingseries.com.

“We wanted to do something special around this history-making event at The Monster Half-Mile,” explained RUSH Co-Director Mike Leone. “Even though we are selling lap sponsors per say, we didn’t want to see a few drivers take all of the monies. This way even if a driver has trouble and drops out of the event finishing 30th, he may have drawn the ‘1’ and would take home $1,300! Hopefully this gives even more racers incentive to compete in this prestigious event.”

“We couldn’t be more excited about the Steel City 100,” expressed Miley. “We’ve always been known for the 100-lap Pittsburgher for the Super Lates and we’ve established that again as a marquee event thanks to our partnership with NDRL. The RUSH Late Models put on fantastic racing every week and we’ve been fortunate enough to showcase them in some tremendous touring events recently. Teaming up with RUSH to do a 100 lapper should be an awesome show and one that we both can develop into a marquee event for Crate Late Model racers throughout the Northeast.”

The Bobby Lake Motorsports “Shock the Clock & Beat the Heat” Quick Cash program will be in effect for the first time this season. The fast qualifier will receive $100 cash, while each heat race winner will earn $25!

Also, Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the “Pedal Down” Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature. The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase.

The ARbodies “Nosed Out” will award a nose kit to the first driver that fails to qualify for the feature through the B main. Driven Racing Oil’s “Slick Move of the Night” winner will receive a bottle of Driven Racing Oil Race Wax, a can of Driven Racing Oil Speed Clean, and a certificate for $50 off a case of Driven XP Synthetic Racing Oil!

Crate Innovations will present both the “Ignite” and “Performance Plus” Awards. The third place finisher will receive a carb spacer kit that includes one billet aluminum Accelerator-1, one upper and one lower spacer gasket, and four specifically designed washers used for installation, while the driver that finishes last on the lead lap will receive the Moroso Custom Fit Plug Wire Set, which are custom tailored for use with the Chevrolet Performance 602 and 604 circle track engines.

After finishing 2013 strong, Chad McClellan enters the weekend as the Sweeney Tour point leader following his season opening victory last Friday night at Freedom Speedway. Josh Holtgraver, who finished runner-up last Friday night and then backed it up with another runner-up last Saturday at Pittsburgh in Sweeney Weekly Series, is second in Tour points.

Pittsburgh has held six Sweeney Weekly Series event this season with five different winners. Ryan Montgomery became the track’s first repeat winner last Saturday night over a season-high 20-car field. The Fairmont, West Virginia 17-year-old was impressive last season in Sweeney Tour action sweeping the Pittsburgher weekend and finishing second in the Speedweek and Manufacturers Night events. Montgomery is clearly considered a favorite for Sunday.
