ST. HELENA, Calif. (April 15, 2019) – Although showing some signs of frustration, Rico Abreu’s two-day visit to the Stockton Dirt Track with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT) resulted in success, wrapping up Asparagus Cup competition with a pair of top-ten performances, one of which the result of an incredible charge from dead last to finish fifth.

Certainly a premier 360c.i. event in northern California, the second annual Asparagus Cup awarded $10,000 on Friday and $15,000 on Saturday.

Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Southern Pacific Farms/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, finished fifth and ninth, respectively, during his Stockton trip, highlighting the weekend with an impressive mount from 24th to finish fifth on Friday, April 12.

Although impressive, Abreu’s rally from last was the result of a failed attempt to transfer through his respective heat race. The St. Helena, California-native was forced to race the evening’s B-main where he advanced from the outside of row five to finish third. That momentum boost soon led to Abreu’s impressive hard charge during the Asparagus Cup opener.

Abreu’s trip to Stockton Dirt Track concluded with a ninth place finish during the $15,000-to-win Asparagus Cup finale on Saturday, April 13; he started in the exact same position.

“The weekend was definitely exciting, but that’s not what we had in mind. I’m glad the fans enjoyed the show, but we certainly had to do things the hard way on Friday,” Rico Abreu explained, who is still hunting for his first victory of 2019. “Things were certainly a lot calmer on Saturday, but we still fell short of our goals. We still have some things to figure out with this car. I have a hard working team. We’ll get to where we need to be very soon.”

Rico Abreu will return to competition this Friday and Saturday, April 19 & 20, with another pair of 360c.i. events in northern California, this time visiting Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday, followed by a trip to Placerville Speedway on Saturday.
