Brent Marks reflects on successful season with Greatest Show On Dirt; WoO-bound again in 2019

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MYERSTOWN, Pa. (November 10, 2018) – The ‘Myerstown Missile’ Brent Marks certainly padded his racing resume during his 2018 campaign, not only completing another grueling, 10-month stretch on the road with the Greatest Show On Dirt, but also accomplishing the ultimate feat of beating the best in the world – three times.

Marks, driver of the Brent Marks Racing/M&M Painting & Construction/BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Eagle Hotel/Buckwalter Trucking/No. 19 sprint car, ended his 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series schedule with World Finals competition at the Dirt Track at Charlotte, ultimately qualifying for each of the contested main events and highlighting the weekend with a 20th place performance during the Friday night A-main (contested on Saturday afternoon due to weather conflicts on Friday).

Despite a middle-of-the-road finish to his season, still bettering over half of the 50+ entrants signed in at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Marks’ 2018 campaign was an overall success story, accumulating three victories with the World of Outlaws, one of which at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, during the coveted 4-Crown Nationals weekend. It was Mark’s first-ever win at the prestigious half-mile and he did so in dramatic fashion; taking command with just seven laps remaining.

Including his trio of triumphs, Marks earned a total of 29 top-ten finishes with the traveling Outlaws, seven of which inside the top-five.

Impressive enough, Marks was able to attain much of success with just one crew member, Jesse Lentz. Dallas Schott joined Brent Marks Racing just after Marks earned his first win of the season during action in Wilmot, Wis., followed by the addition of crew chief, Jim Shuttlesworth, who stepped-in just before the Knoxville Nationals.

“I can’t say enough about my team and the effort put forth. Jessie and I were on our own for the first half of the season, but we were fortunate enough to add some people later in the year and it proved to be very beneficial. I can’t thank everyone enough for their hard work,” Brent Marks explained, who earned an Outlaws victory at Weedsport Speedway in addition to his wins at Wilmot and Eldora. “I wouldn’t be in this position without my family and all of my dedicated partners. It takes a lot of parts to make a race team go up and down the highway, not to mention be capable of winning. I’m privileged to be in this position.”

Brent Marks and Brent Marks Racing will return to the road full-time in 2019. Updates, including the potential for new and returning marketing partners, will be released in the near-future.

“We are hard at work getting ready for next season. If you think about it, the off-season isn’t much of an off-season. We’ll be on our way to Florida soon enough,” Marks continued. “The next few months will be busy, but we are more motivated than ever.”

Zearfoss enters off-season with positive outlook

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (November 10, 2018) – A season complete with success, team changes and new places, the ‘Jonestown Jet’ Brock Zearfoss will enter the off-season with a positive outlook, already taking steps forward in preparation for the new year.

Zearfoss, who concluded the year in charge of the Brock Zearfoss Racing/Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill/Meckley’s Limestone/Central Builders Supply Co./Berkebile Oil Company/BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Creekside Roofing and Siding/Bargain Barn/Heavy Equipment, Loaders & Parts Inc./No. 3Z sprint car, capped off his 2018 campaign with a trip to The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Thursday through Friday, November 1-3. Despite weather interfering with much of the weekend, the show went on and so did Zearfoss, ultimately qualifying for each of the World of Outlaws main events contested.

The Jonestown, Pa., native earned two victories during the 2018 season, incidentally occurring in back-to-back fashion during action at Williams Grove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway on April 20 & 21, respectively. The pair of victories were only the tip of Zearfoss’ iceberg of accomplishments that also includes 20 top-five performances, many of which against the elite of sprint car racing.

Perhaps Zearfoss’ most impressive feat of the season was accomplished during competition at the Sprint Car Capital of the World – Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. The hired ace for North Dakota-based Destiny Motorsports at the time, Zearfoss qualified for the coveted Knoxville Nationals A-main during a first-ever attempt. The team locked themselves into the A-main by transferring through the Knoxville Nationals B-main contested just prior to the historic, $150,000-to-win main event.

Zearfoss finished tenth during Knoxville Nationals preliminary competition.

“What a summer. It was full of ups, downs and everything else in between, but at the end of the day, I’m very grateful for the opportunities given and the experiences I had the pleasure of enduring,” Zearfoss said. “It was a blast and I’m already looking forward to next year.”

Despite his plans not officially set in stone, Zearfoss is excited for what the future has in store. Any updates regarding 2019 will be released in the coming weeks. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via social media, brockzearfoss.com and fullyinjected.com.

“We have some things in the works, but I’m not ready to unveil anything just yet,” Zearfoss continued. “I want to make sure everything is ready to rock and roll before anything is said. It’s going to be exciting.”

Donny Schatz caps tenth WoO championship run with victory in Charlotte

Donny Schatz caps tenth WoO championship run with victory in Charlotte

Dates: Thursday through Saturday, November 1st – 3rd
Event: World of Outlaws World Finals
Series: World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series
Track: The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Charlotte, N.C.)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start):
Friday Program: 10th (21st)
Saturday Program: 1st (10th)

Final 2018 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 1st – 9,944 points (286-point margin over second place, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (November 6, 2018) – Capping off an extraordinaire season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz earned a win during his final WoO start of the year, snagging $12,000 in the process and raising his season win mark to 22.

Ultimately distracted by wet weather, Schatz’ World Finals performance at The Dirt Track at Charlotte included a pair of top-ten performances in one day, advancing a grand total of 20 positions in front of a sellout crowd in Concord, North Carolina.

“Hats off to my guys, they have worked their butts off all season. I’m the hardest guy in the pits to work for because if it’s not perfect, I’m not happy,” Schatz said with a smile next to his Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/ No. 15 sprint car. “These guys do an excellent job night in and night out. I wouldn’t want anyone else out here with me.”

With Mother Nature wreaking havoc during much of the day on Friday, the World of Outlaws main event scheduled for later that evening was eventually pushed to Saturday afternoon, forcing an epic doubleheader for the Greatest Show On Dirt. After an impressive rally from 21st to finish tenth during the first 30-lap program, Schatz did one better later that evening and earned a trip to victory lane from the outside of row five.

The nine-position rally was impressive, but it did not come easy as Schatz was forced to hold back multiple late race takeover attempts by Shark Racing’s Logan Schuchart.

“I felt great on that restart with seven laps to go and I knew it would take someone with a lot of speed to get by me and sure enough here comes Logan (Schuchart),” Schatz continued. “He has been fast all season.”

Schatz’ 2018 WoO title bumps his total to eight under Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), all after accumulating back-to-back triumphs for Donny Schatz Motorsports (DSM) in 2006 & 2007. The transition from DSM to TSR in 2008 proved to be a successful decision for Schatz, actually kicking off his TSR tenure with a title later that season.

Including the eight captured by Schatz, Tony Stewart Racing now owns nine World of Outlaws team titles. The first of the nine was accomplished in 2001 by Dover, Missouri’s Danny Lasoski. Schatz’ titles for TSR were earned in 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2014-2018.

Rico Abreu ends 2018 sprint car season with Gary Patterson Tribute victory at Stockton

Rico Abreu ends 2018 sprint car season with Gary Patterson Tribute victory at Stockton

Dates: Friday & Saturday, November 2nd & 3rd
Event: 35th Annual Tribute to Gary Patterson
Series: Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 Sprints (SCCT) & King of the West-NARC 410 Series (KWS)
Track: Stockton Dirt Track (Stockton, Calif.)
Rico Abreu Finishes (Start):
Friday (360): DNF (10th)
Saturday (SCCT): 5th (3rd)
Saturday (KWS): 1st (3rd)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (November 6, 2018) – The weekend kicked off slow, but picked up in a hurry as Rico Abreu capped off his 2018 winged sprint car season with a victory at Stockton (Calif.) Dirt Track. Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, earned his fifth win of the season during the King of the West-NARC Sprint Car Series finale. It was Abreu’s third victory of the year in the state of California, adding his Stockton triumph to a list that already includes Silver Dollar Speedway and Keller Auto Speedway.

“I can’t thank my team enough for all of their hard work and dedication this season. We’ve had a lot of tough times, but the good times always outweigh the bad. We’ve molded into a family and I wouldn’t want to be with anyone else right now,” Rico Abreu said of his Rico Abreu Racing crew. “We had a busy weekend at Stockton. The guys held tough and worked their butts off. I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish.”

After a tough start to the weekend at Stockton Dirt Track, provoked by a ‘DNF’ finish during Friday’s non-sanctioned 360 main event, Rico Abreu rebounded in a big way on Saturday and scored a pair of top-five finishes against two of California’s premier sprint car sanctioning bodies.

The season finale for each of the traveling sprint car series, Rico Abreu kicked-off the Tribute to Gary Patterson at Stockton with a fifth place performance during the Sprint Car Challenge Tour (SCCT) 360 program. The St. Helena, Calif., native started third on the feature grid and locked himself into the main event by finishing second during his respective heat race, just before finishing third during the SCCT dash.

Making the quick jump from one car to the next, Abreu concluded the Tribute to Gary Patterson with a $5,000 victory during King of the West competition. An exciting end to his season, nonetheless, Abreu started third on the feature grid, but was unable to make the winning move around Roth Motorsports’ Kyle Hirst until late, taking command officially with three laps remaining.

“That was a fun finish; definitely a great way to end our season in a winged sprint car,” Rico Abreu continued. “Things kept getting better and better for us as the months rolled by. Hopefully we can move that momentum into next year.”

Rico Abreu will spend a few weekends away from competition before returning to the driver’s seat on Wednesday & Thursday, November 21 & 22, for the 78th edition of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The USAC Midget program will award a $6,000 top prize.

Donny Schatz earns tenth World of Outlaws championship

Donny Schatz earns tenth World of Outlaws championship

Tony Stewart Racing clinches ninth WoO owner title since 2001

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (November 2, 2018) – For the tenth time in his career, now with five in consecutive fashion, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz is a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, making his 2018 title official on Thursday evening during World Finals qualifications at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/ No. 15 sprint car, entered the season-ending World Finals program with a 278-point command, padded by 21 victories in 2018, as well as an astonishing 64 top-ten finishes in 69 World of Outlaws starts thus far. In fact, 2018 marks as the sixth consecutive season that Schatz reached the 20-win milestone.

Schatz’ 2018 title bumps his total to eight under Tony Stewart Racing (TSR), all after accumulating back-to-back triumphs for Donny Schatz Motorsports (DSM) in 2006 & 2007. The transition from DSM to TSR in 2008 proved to be a successful decision for Schatz, actually kicking off his TSR tenure with a title later that season.

“It’s an honor to be a part of this organization. I get to work with the best team in sprint car racing and it shows night in and night out. I’m just the guy who gets to drive the car,” Donny Schatz said. “Our goal is to win races, but when you race a schedule like we do, you have to take a step back and look at the big picture. My team puts me in a position to win every night, and if not, we have the ability to battle forward and race near the front. The results that we put together allow us to contend for a championship. It’s a real privilege.”

“It’s pretty cool to see what Donny has accomplished over the last decade; I’m glad he has allowed TSR to be a part of his Hall of Fame career,” said Tony Stewart, owner of Tony Stewart Racing.  “Steve (Kinser) will always be the King with his longevity and 20 Outlaw titles in the sport, but Donny is certainly proving to the best of his generation and down the road, arguments will be made who is the best of all time. For now, we’re going to celebrate this weekend. Congrats to Donny and the 15 team: Ricky, Scuba, Brad and Gary.”

Donny Schatz’ 2018 championship adds depth to an extensive team resume that now includes a grand total of 27 titles across multiple divisions of short track auto racing. On top of nine World of Outlaws championships, Tony Stewart’s ownership resume is also comprised of 14 USAC championships, as well as four TQ titles with Ron Combs.

Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will conclude their 2018 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship campaign, officially, with two, full nights of World Finals competition on Friday and Saturday, November 2 & 3. The World of Outlaws championship celebration will take shape on Sunday, November 4.

Zearfoss to rejoin family team for World Finals; 2019 plans in the works

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

JONESTOWN, Pa. (October 31, 2018) – Effective immediately, Brock Zearfoss and Destiny Motorsports have parted ways. The Jonestown, Pa., native will return to the Zearfoss Family-owned No. 3Z full-time beginning with World Finals competition which commences tomorrow – Thursday, November 1 – at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, North Carolina.

“I want to thank Rick and Barb Rogers for the opportunity to drive for Destiny Motorsports. It was a great experience to race out on the road and visit new tracks and states. Unfortunately, things didn’t sort out as intended and we’ve decided to part ways,” Brock Zearfoss explained. “I want to thank the crew – Shane, Kevin, and Tyler – for their hard work and support during the last few months. I’m excited for what the future holds for me. Our plans for 2019 are coming together quickly.”

During recent competition, Brock Zearfoss and Brock Zearfoss Racing entered the 51st running of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway. Forced to wait an extra day due to Mother Nature, Zearfoss battled against a loaded field of 51 entries during the historic, $51,000-to-win program and qualified for the 50-lap main event by finishing second during his respective heat race. Plagued with brake issues, Zearfoss was forced to retire early; he was scored 17th after starting 11th.

“Considering the circumstances, we decided to enter the Tuscarora 50 with our own car,” Brock Zearfoss said, driver of the Brock Zearfoss Racing/Moose’s LZ Bar & Grill/Meckley’s Limestone/Central Builders Supply Co./Berkebile Oil Company/BAPS Auto Paint & Supply/Creekside Roofing and Siding/Bargain Barn/No. 3Z. “It wasn’t a bad day for our team. We ended up breaking a brake line which forced things to kind of end early for us. I want to thank my family and crew for helping me get things ready in a hurry. I’m excited to get back in the ‘3Z’ this weekend in Charlotte.”

World Finals competition will begin with two rounds of qualifying time trials on Thursday, followed by back-to-back nights of racing on Friday and Saturday, November 2 & 3.

Danny Dietrich recovers for top-ten during 51st Tuscarora 50

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (October 29, 2018) – Danny Dietrich’s 2018 season is officially in the books.

Although concluding the year off of the podium, Dietrich’s performance during the 51st running of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway was impressive, ultimately rallying from an early race flat to finish well inside the top-ten. For Dietrich, the top-ten performance propelled his season total to 52, 33 of which inside the top-five. In addition, the driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing machine earned ten victories in 2018, most recently scoring a mark in the win column during action at BAPS Motor Speedway.

Including his BAPS triumph in September, Dietrich amassed two wins at the York Haven oval this season, also accumulating victories during starts at Lincoln Speedway (5), Port Royal Speedway (2), and Williams Grove Speedway (1).

“The second-half of our season was frustrating at times, but we still managed to put together a lot of great results,” Danny Dietrich said. “I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work and support in 2018. I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish. We went through a lot this season, from happiness to heartache, but it was a great ride. All we can do now is begin rebuilding for next year.”

Danny Dietrich finished seventh on Sunday afternoon at Port Royal Speedway and earned his way into the 50-lap, $51,000-to-win program by winning his respective heat race. With track conditions playing in his favor, Dietrich was in contention to win the big payday, only to be denied on lap 17 by a cut tire. Dietrich returned to the speedway to finish the event, eventually battling his way forward for a top-ten performance.

“I think we were going to be OK, but that’s just how our luck has been,” Dietrich continued. “All we can do now is move forward and work to win it next year.”

Donny Schatz earns historic Port Royal payday during 51st Tuscarora 50

Donny Schatz earns historic Port Royal payday during 51st Tuscarora 50

Date: Sunday, October 28th
Event: 51st Annual Tuscarora 50
Series: World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series
Track: Port Royal Speedway (Port Royal, Pa.)
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 1st (5th)

World of Outlaws Championship Standings (as of 10/29/2018): 1st – 9,664 points (278-point margin over second place, Brad Sweet)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 29, 2018) – It was an afternoon to remember for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing, not only securing their 21st victory of the 2018 season, twice the total of the second-leading winner on the circuit, but also scoring one of the largest paydays of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season – $51,513 to be exact.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car, continued his title quest with a visit to Central Pennsylvania for the 51st running of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal Speedway. Despite being forced to wait an extra day due to Mother Nature, the delay did not impact the Fargo, N.D., native, ultimately scoring the $51,000+ winner’s share over a stout field of 51 competitors.

Starting fifth on the main event grid, the nine-time and defending Outlaws champion commenced his charge toward the front in a hurry, eventually snagging the second position from Central Pennsylvania front-runner Lucas Wolfe on lap 22, just before earning the top spot from WoO championship contender Brad Sweet on lap 32. The winning move was a signature one for the now three-time Port Royal Speedway feature winner, utilizing the bottom groove to drive under Sweet at the entrance of turn one.

“That felt like a 500-miler,” Schatz said with a chuckle in victory lane about the caution-filled, 50-lap main event. “My team is incredible at what they do and it’s pretty cool to win that big money with them. Anytime you win in Pennsylvania it’s big and this is a big one.”

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart Racing will cap off their 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series championship campaign with back-to-back nights of competition at the season-ending World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Two rounds of World of Outlaws qualifying will take shape on Thursday, November 1, followed by back-to-back programs on Friday and Saturday, November 2 & 3.

Schatz will enter the weekend with a 278-point command in the title chase. With that said, just showing up to the World Finals will solidify a tenth championship with the Greatest Show On Dirt.
