CLAUSON COLLECTS $10,000 WITH LAWRENCEBURG SPRINT CAR WIN

Lawrenceburg, Indiana…….Bryan Clauson continued his amazing USAC season and enhanced his AMSOIL National Sprint Car point lead after winning Saturday’s 30-lap “City of Lawrenceburg Fall Nationals” on Breast Cancer Awareness night at Lawrenceburg Speedway. The win was Clauson’s sixth National Sprint Car win of the year and 17th overall USAC win.

Chase Stockon started from the pole and grabbed the early lead, but front-row mate Dave Darland went right with him and made a bid for the lead on lap one. Stockon held on, and the top two were off and running at a torrid pace. Clauson started from row-three and moved to fourth early on as Darland applied pressure for the lead.

Darland used a turn-three slidejob on lap seven to take the top spot, but Stockon came right back at him. He dove underneath Darland for the lead the next lap in turn-three, and this time he drove away from Darland.

As the leaders encountered traffic, Darland shadowed Stockon while Clauson moved to the third spot. As the trio hit halfway, Clauson moved to second past Darland, who bobbled on the cushion. On lap 17, Clauson went to the point as they negotiated heavy traffic.

In a nonstop affair, Stockon kept Clauson in sight, but it was not enough as Clauson won by 1.645 seconds in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevy Performance #20 Beast/Kistler to lengthen his point lead over Darland to 13 markers.

“Starting sixth, I was able to search around a little and our car was pretty phenomenal tonight. We were a little snug up top, so I had to cheat off of it a little and actually found a line I liked better down a little lower. Our car was really good right through the middle the way it came in there. We just haven’t gotten to race that much together, so now that we’re getting to go back to some places, (crew chief) Bob (East) is just getting the cars better and better,” Clauson said.

Stockon finished a strong second in the Superior Tank & Trailer – Crescent Electric Supply #32 DRC/Fisher.

“The way our luck has been lately, we were just glad to finish, and to finish second to the 20 right now is a good night. We were fast the first half of the race, but I guess we were just hitting traffic wrong and he got by us. The way it’s been here lately, it’s been around the top, so I decided to stay up there until somebody showed me a nose. I moved down some after battling with Dave, but Bryan had already tracked us down by then,” Stockon said.

Darland lost a lot of ground to the leaders in the closing stretch but held on for third in the Phillips Motorpsorts – Racer’s Advantage #71P DRC/Foxco.

“When the bottom and middle got faster than the top, it became a struggle for us. We were still good, but it got slick up to the cushion which was just bigger and more solid, so I had to move off of it in three and four. I bicycled a couple times, and were happy to run third,” Darland said.

Kevin Thomas, Jr. came on strong in the final laps to finish fourth in the Mike Dutcher/RW/Tri-Star Motorsports – Black Jack Oil Company #17RW Maxim/Fisher, and Justin Grant rounded out the top-five in the Bill Elson #27A Maxim/Claxton.
