Danny Dietrich makes ten hour tow from Knoxville to Mansfield to earn podium finish during Great Lakes Dirt Nationals

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (August 13, 2018) – A less than satisfying performance during Knoxville Nationals preliminary competition allowed “Double-D” Danny Dietrich so make the easy decision to travel east and compete at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

Dietrich, who was scheduled to start 19th in the Knoxville Nationals C-main on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway, decided to bypass any competition and make the overnight trek east to Mansfield, Ohio. The decision proved to be worth the effort, ultimately earning a podium finish during the $20,000-to-win Great Lakes Dirt Nationals at the state-of-the-art facility.

Danny Dietrich’s Knoxville Nationals campaign ended with two B-main starts, missing transfer positions during each attempt.

“It wasn’t the intent from the start, obviously, but it made more sense to us than sticking around to race the C-main,” Danny Dietrich explained, driver of the Gary Kauffman Racing/Weikert’s Livestock/Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Pace Performance/Gsell’s Whitetails/Hickory Run Orchards/Drop Of Ink Tattoo/Sweeney Cars/Self Made/No. 48 sprint car. “Our chances of transferring out of the C-main were pretty slim to none, so why not start the journey home early and race on the way. It ended up being a great decision. I’m happy with how things ended. I’m proud of this team. I made some mistakes during the Nationals that hurt any chances of us making the big show. At least our decision to head home and race ended on a high note.”

Danny Dietrich finished third during his visit to Mansfield Motor Speedway, qualifying for main event competition by winning his respective heat race after starting fourth. The Gettysburg, Pa., native earned the fourth-fastest time out of 30 entrants during qualifying time trials.

Up next on the schedule, Danny Dietrich and Gary Kauffman Racing will enter a Central Pennsylvania triple-header on Friday through Sunday, August 17-19, anxious to revisit Williams Grove Speedway and Lincoln Speedway on Friday and Saturday, respectively, each before a Sunday night appearance at Trail-Way Speedway for the Third Annual Armin Hostetter Memorial. “Double-D” will enter the weekend with nine victories on the season, five of which at the “Fabulous” Lincoln Speedway.
