BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 17, 2019) – Donny Schatz’ visit to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, may have ended short of the overall goal, but the information obtained during his visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World was vital, already looking ahead to the annual Knoxville Nationals in mid-August.

Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car, finished fourth and 15th, respectively, during his two-day stop at Knoxville Raceway on June 14 & 15, securing his 17th top-five performance of 2019 in the process.

Although strong during the entire Friday night program, kicking things off with a heat race victory before finishing fifth during the evening’s dash, Schatz’ eventual top-five during main event action did not occur easily, as the Fargo, North Dakota-native was forced to battle with current World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point leader, Brad Sweet, during the late stages to secure his fourth place run; Schatz started fifth.

Although scored 15th on Saturday, the finish was a product of row 11, earning his way into the Brownells Big Guns Bash finale with a victory during the evening’s Last Chance Showdown.

“We really didn’t have the weekend we wanted to have, but there’s a bigger race at Knoxville later this summer. We’ll come back ready to go for that,” Donny Schatz expressed, who finished second during the 2018 Knoxville Nationals finale. “Regardless, my team worked their tails off all weekend and I’m proud of their efforts. All we can do now is get ourselves ready for next weekend.”

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their quest toward the 2019 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series title this Saturday and Sunday, June 22 & 23, with a two-race weekend through Wisconsin and Iowa. The trip will ignite Saturday with a visit to Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis., followed by a trip to Dubuque Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa.

Schatz finished fifth during his 2018 Beaver Dam appearance, climbing ahead from row five to do so.
