SELINSGROVE, Pa. –Selinsgrove Speedway will open the 2013 season, weather permitting, with a rare early afternoon show starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10, featuring the 410 sprint cars in the track’s 51st consecutive opener. Track gates will open at 12 p.m.
The 410 sprint car drivers will compete in a 25-lap main event paying $4,000 to win and $300 to start out of a purse totaling more than $16,500. Heat races, with starting lineups being determined by luck-of-the-draw, and a B-main will be the qualifying format for the first open wheel event and Hoosier Tire race of the season at the historic Snyder County oval.
The 410 sprint cars are also scheduled to return to Selinsgrove Speedway on May 26 for the Ray Tilley Classic, July 7 for the Jan Opperman Memorial PA Speedweek Finale, Sept. 14 for the Jim Nace Memorial 31st Annual National Open, and Oct. 6.
Track officials announced this year’s National Open for 410 sprint cars will be a single 44-lap main event paying $12,000 to win.
Last year’s 410 sprint car races at the track were won by Daryn Pittman of Owasso, Okl., (season opener), Lance Dewease of Fayetteville (PA Speedweek), and Pat Cannon of Etters (National Open).
The annual Selinsgrove Speedway Motorsports Show at the Susquehanna Valley Mall in Hummels Wharf will run Sunday, March 3 through Friday, March 8. Race teams interested in placing their car on display in the show should contact Steve Inch at publicrelations@selinsgrovespeedway.com570.523.8420.
Season reserved seat tickets will be available to purchase at the mall Sunday-Friday. The season kickoff ceremony will be in the mall’s center court Friday at 7:30 p.m.
