RUSH LATE MODELS TO MAKE 2 APPEARANCES AT SPORTSMAN’S SPEEDWAY IN 2013 FOR SWEENEY WEEKLY SERIES ACTION
By Mike Leone

(Pulaski, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Series is set to go for its inaugural 2013 season with seven weekly-sanctioned speedways and a slate of approximately 25 touring events.  Series Directors Vicki Emig and Mike Leone are now excited to announce that Sportsman’s Speedway in Knox, Pa. has come on board to host two Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Weekly Series events on Sunday, June 2 and Sunday, August 11.

RUSH racers will now be able to compete at Sportsman’s on these nights and earn full points toward the $25,000+ Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Weekly Series Championship. The August 11 date will also allow eligible racers to accumulate points toward the $10,000+ Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC “Summer Chase” program. Of course eligible “Futures Cup” contenders will also be able to count both events toward that championship race as well.

The events will mark the first time Crate Late Models have ever competed at the “fast 1/3rd mile” and will offer a purse similar to other regional weekly-sanctioned speedways.  Allegheny Mountain Raceway, a weekly-sanctioned Sunday track 50 miles northeast of Sportsman’s, will not be in action on these nights.

“Crate Late Model racers have always asked about racing at Sportsman’s,” acknowledged Emig.  “Allegheny Mountain had a few off nights and with the growth of RUSH, Sportsman’s thought this would be the perfect time to give crates the opportunity to race.  We have to thank the Colwells for making this possible.  With Sportsman’s centralized location, the events will be able to draw racers from around the region.  These races coupled with the touring event at America’s Motorsports Park in Clearfield on July 20 will give racers in the central part of the state some opportunities to race closer to home.”

RUSH is working with other speedways in the region to host Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Weekly Series events creating additional opportunities for racers in different areas to be able to accumulate points, and still talking with others about becoming weekly-sanctioned.  Stay tuned for these announcements.  Tracks wishing to become weekly-sanctioned or simply host an event(s), can call the office at 724-964-9300.

Sportsman’s Speedway opened in 1973 and over the years featured most all of the regional divisions including the “410” Sprint Cars, Super Late Models, and Big-Block Modifieds.  Sportsman’s has long established itself as Sunday night entertainment venue and has been a favorite for families to enjoy its relaxing environment with its noted grassy hillside and unobstructed viewing.  Racers have always enjoyed the smooth and racey surface with no fencing or walls in turns one and two or the backstretch.

Today, Sportsman’s is operated by Jim and Louise Colwell and features the “358” Modifieds, “305” Sprints, Micro Sprints, and various Stock Car-type divisions on a normal Sunday night at 5 p.m.

Sportsman’s is located on Curllsville/Huckleberry Ridge Road just off of Route 208 in Elk City between Knox and Shippenville, Pa.  For more information, check out their website at www.sportsmansspeedwayknox.com or call 814-797-1621.
