Bryan Hulbert – Mesquite, Texas (October 19, 2012) Jeff Swindell was in fine form this past Friday night at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway, leading all but one lap en-route to a $3,000 payday on night one of the 39th annual Winter Nationals.
Earning the FSR Radiator High Point Award, the H&H Container Service No. 94 then drew the pole in the night’s 25 lap feature event alongside Oklahoma’s Christopher Bell.
Jumping to the race led, Swindell nearly saw his night end after going sideways exiting turn two on lap two. Nearly stalling the engine, the MVT No. 94 would fall to second but would rally back around Christopher Bell on lap three.
Restart on lap ten after the caution flew for the spun No. 22 of Koby Barksdale, the field fanned out top to bottom as Swindell continued to lead with Wayne Johnson working on Travis Rilat for third. Getting the pass on lap thirteen, the Oil Medics No. 77x began running down Christopher Bell as the leaders neared the tail of the field.
Held up for a trio of laps, Swindell would see a two second lead diminished to car lengths as Bell and Johnson made the challenge for the race lead only to see the caution lights blink on as John Carney II rolled to a stop exiting turn four.
Rolling to green with six laps to run, Danny Lasoski and Jason Johnson began battling to be in the top five with Rilat in the mix. Going three wide, Lasoski would get the run but Jason Johnson would have the advantage as the MVT No. 41 grabbed the fourth spot with series rival Wayne Johnson within sight.
Going side by side from first to sixth for the final few laps, Jeff Swindell would hold off Christopher Bell for his third win of the 2012 season. Jason Johnson would rally past Wayne Johnson with three to go for third with Danny Lasoski taking the fourth transfer spot into the Winter Nationals finale on Saturday. Travis Rilat held on to round out the top five.
Wayne Johnson held on to finish sixth with Johnny Herrera seventh. Brian Brown earned the PitStopUSA.com Hard Charger of the Race by charging from twentieth to eighth with Brady Bacon and Jack Dover making up the top ten.
The 39th annual Winter Nationals at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway concludes on Saturday October 20, 2012 with races scheduled to begin at 8pm.
