Virginia Motor Speedway’s Commonwealth 100 Rebadged as Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth

Jamaica, Virginia (December 21, 2013) One of Virginia Motor Speedway’s most popular Dirt Late Model events is set to return to the schedule in 2014 after a one year hiatus. The race, formerly known as the Commonwealth 100, will now be known as the Aaron’s King of the Commonwealth. The event will be sanctioned by the National Dirt Racing League. The event is scheduled for April 12 and will pay a king’s ransom of $20,000 to the winner. “We needed to give our Commonwealth event a new name and format that better reflected the event and didn’t put it inside the ‘100 lap box’. After discussions with everyone involved we decided that King of the Commonwealth was a great fit. It goes hand and hand with the NDRL’s Kings of Dirt theme and it gave us a great idea for a promotion for our race fans and the event sponsor Aaron’s.” said Virginia Motor Speedway’s Dave Seay.

Also new for the King of the Commonwealth is the addition of title sponsor Aaron’s. Aaron’s, Inc. is a leader in the sales and lease ownership and specialty retailing of residential furniture, consumer electronics, home appliances and accessories with more than 2,000 Company-operated and franchised stores in 48 states and Canada. Aaron’s was founded in 1955 by entrepreneur R. Charles Loudermilk and publicly traded since 1982, Aaron’s was a pioneer in the furniture rental industry. Aaron’s also has maintained ties to much of the motorsports industry including all levels of NASCAR sponsorship.

Along with their race sponsorship Aaron’s will begin running a “Win the King’s Throne” promotion which will lead to one lucky race fan winning a beautiful new recliner. Each driver in the starting field for the King of the Commonwealth feature will be paired with an eligible fan by random draw. The fan that is matched with the winning driver will win the King’s Throne – a very nice reclining chair from Aaron’s. The winning driver will also get their own “Kings Throne” from Aarons. There will be more information released soon on the King’s Throne promotion including store locations, rules and full details of the promotion. “We thought this was a great way to drive race fans into the Aaron’s stores so they can see all that they have to offer. And it is just a neat promotion that goes right along with the NDRL’s “Kings of Dirt” moniker.

“What a great event to be involved with and have on our schedule. Virginia Motor Speedway is one of the nicest venues for Dirt Late Model Racing in the Country and to have the opportunity to go there and showcase with the NDRL has to offer is such a great honor for us. The Sawyer Family have built such a great reputation for bringing their fans the best in dirt racing and we are thrilled to join them in that mission in 2014. There is quite a bit of history that goes along with the Commonwealth 100 and we intend to do that legacy justice. And to have a great national company like Aaron’s on board as the event sponsor just makes the weekend that much more special. The ‘King’s Throne’ promotion is such a great tie in for both us and Aaron’s. It seems like a partnership made in heaven.” added NDRL Series Director Kelley Carlton.

Complete details on the King’s Throne promotion will be released soon including entry details and contest rules. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval.
