PITTSBURGH, PA — The new year is now underway and that means the 2013 racing season is rapidly approaching; with that in mind Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is proud to release their 2013 racing schedule.

“Once again this year the first draft of our schedule includes 27 nights of exciting racing action,” commented Speedway Owner Matt Miley. “We will showcase each of our weekly divisions with several special events throughout the year. In addition,we are looking forward to the return of the Winged Super Sprints, the B.O.S.S. Wingless Sprints, ARDC Midgets, Kennedy Motorsports ULMS Late Models and the PA Vintage Modifieds. Discussion with several other sanctioning bodies continue and we anticipate a few additions to the schedule in the future.”

The biggest change over previous years will be that the first five events on the schedule will be run in the afternoon. An Open Practice will kick off the 2013 season on Saturday, March 30th and the first four regularly scheduled events will also be held on Saturday afternoons. “In the past several years we have lost at least half of our April events to either rain or cold weather; we are hoping that by holding these events in the afternoon we can ‘beat Mother Nature’ and increase attendance with the warmer afternoon temperatures,” said Miley.

Bad Habit and friends were very well received when they made their debut in a full blown Monster Truck show last September and the “four wheeling behemoths” will return to the “Monster Half Mile” on Saturday, June 8th. “We recognize the importance of getting new fans interested in local auto racing and we believe that the monster truck action and the families that enjoy it will also enjoy the weekly short track racing,” stated Miley. The Wacky Wheels Figure Eight Division will also be on the racing card that action evening. Stay tuned as additional divisions that will also be in action that night will be announced in the near future.

The Winged Super Sprints and the B.O.S. S. Wingless Sprints will split the four visits by the full size “Open Wheel” competitors. The “winged warriors” will complete on Sunday, June 30th and will return as part of the Red Miley Rumble on Saturday, August 17th. Their ‘wingless siblings’ will compete on Saturday, June 22nd and Saturday,September 28th.

The always exciting ARDC Midgets will also return for the third consecutive year. The Series’ will visit the Bedford Speedway on Friday, August 23rd and then make the final leg of the their Eastern Trek to compete at PPMS the following evening. The two event weekend will provide the midget competitors with the opportunity to tackle two multi-groove half mile tracks and maybe pick up some extra cash if one driver score “back to back” victories.

The Super Series events for the Super Late Models will also return in 2013. The Super Late Model Super Series will consist of three events: the PENNational (Saturday, July 13 th ), the Red Miley Rumble and the 25th Annual Pittsburgher on Friday and Saturday, September 13th and 14th. A separate set of points will be kept for these three events. The PENNational and the Red Miley Rumble will be sanctioned by the Kennedy Motorsports ULMS Late Model Series and pit the top “Northern Tier” drivers against a strong contingent of PPMS regulars.

The Pro-Late Model Division will be the headliners on five occasions with the 24th Annual Jook George Memorial Classic once again being their “Crown Jewel.” The unsanctioned event honors the memory of the late car owner Jook George whose tireless promotion of motorsports is fondly remembered by many PPMS competitors and fans. The specific date of this event will be announced shortly. The newly formed RUSH Touring Series Speedweek event will take place on Saturday, July 13th as part of the PENNational event. The series will also return on Saturday, August 31st. Additional in house specials for the Pro-Late competitors are tentatively scheduled for April 20th and June 1st. Pro-Late competitor can view the RUSH Series rules by visiting their website: www.rushracingseries.com. These five Pro-Late special events will comprise the Pro-Late Sizzler Series with a separate champion being crowned at the end of the 2013 racing season.

PPMS management is also working on determining a date for the Second Annual Ed Laboon Memorial event for the Late Model Sportsman competitors. Additional dates for Wacky Wheels Figure Eight competition will also be announced in the near future.
