2014 KISS Schedule Set

There are several signs that farmer’s watch, like color bands on wooly worms and the height of squirrels nests in the trees, to predict the severity of the coming winter. One sign that I like to use goes like this – the worse the winter, the better the racing in the spring. And, given the snow and icy weather seen in the Hoosier State the past month, I predict that the 2014 King of Indiana Sprint Series is going to be a real barn-burner.

As we look forward, the Indiana promoters have already penciled the KISS dates into their schedules. All that remains is to dust the snow off the seats and fire up the hot dogs. The plan looks very similar to that of the past couple years as racing kicks off at the half mile Terre Haute Action Track, the biggest oval on the card, in late April. Then Bloomington and Kokomo Speedways race on the first weekend in May. A week later, the series travels to Gas City/I-69 Speedway for their Friday show. The next weekend, the racers head to the southeastern corner of the state for Lawrenceburg’s event. As has become their tradition, Tri-State Speedway will host the KISS sprinters on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, just hours after the completion of the Indy 500. The 2014 KISS championship will be finalized at Paragon Speedway on Saturday, May 31 at Paragon Speedway.

It’s during the hot stove season that we look ahead at who will grab the KISS headlines this year. In 2013, Brady Short nailed his second title, winning two of the four races competed, while three were victims of rain. Jon Stanbrough can be expected to return to the form that has brought him six KISS crowns and a record 19 feature race wins. However there are a couple dozen other drivers who also plan to buckle in, headed by 2011 KISS champion Dave Darland, and include Kevin Thomas Jr., Robert Ballou, Hunter Schuerenberg and Casey Shuman who finished in last year’s top-5 in KISS points. Let’s go racing!
