Showcases RUSH Pro-Lates

PITTSBURGH, PA — The month of August gets underway with the Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro-Late Models in the spotlight for the 24th Annual Jook George Memorial this Saturday at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. A complete program for the Diehl of Robinson Super Late Models, Sunoco Race Fuels Late Model Sportsman, Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stocks and the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns will complete the evening’s racing action.

“Jook started this event in 1990 to showcase the Pro-Late Model teams and we are proud to continue the event in his memory,” stated Speedway Owner Matt Miley. “Jook loved the sport of auto racing and we at PPMS would like to instill that love of the sport into today’s fans. In addition, he enjoyed having the children involved in the sport and with the assistance of divisional competitor Laura Lukon we are able to have the youngsters participate in the pre-race activities for this year’s main event.”

For the past several weeks, children aged 14 and younger have been able to sign up in the PPMS Souvenir Booth for the opportunity to escort their favorite Pro-Late Model competitor to their car during this Saturday’s pre-race festivities. Children can also sign up this Saturday and the winners will be announced at the beginning of Saturday evening’s festivities.

The evening will get underway with group time trials for the RUSH Pro-Late Model competitors. The times will determine the heat race lineups and the top finishers in the preliminary events will redraw for their starting positions in the 25-lap main event. The winner of the event will receive the $1,000 first place prize money as well as a gift certificate from Afco Racing Shocks. Afco has also provided an additional gift certificate for the seventh place finisher in feature event and Winner’s Circle Motorsports, LLC will award $50.00 to the Hard Charger in the event.

Kyle Lukon was the victor in last year’s Jook George event and already has five wins in divisional racing action at the “Monster Half Mile” this season. Mike Pegher, Jr. scored a popular victory on Sunday when he took the lead with just four laps remaining and went on to score his second PPMS win of 2013. Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. is the only other divisional competitor who has scored two wins in 2013 at the Imperial, PA oval. Other drivers who have scored single victories at PPMS in 2013 include Joe Martin, Ron Hall, Laura Lukon, Andrew Wylie and Colton Flinner. In addition, Justin Lamb and Josh Holtgraver both looked strong in Sunday’s main event and are expected to challenge for the 2013 Jook George title.

The Jook George Memorial’s victors include Mike Johnson, Mike Pegher, Jr. and our two most recent PPMS Super Late Model winners, Brandon Burgoon and Jim Stephans. In Sunday’s Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model feature event Jim Stephans benefitted from Tony Musolino’s mechanical misfortune and claimed his second victory of the season. Stephans will be looking for win number three on Saturday and Musolino will be back in the hunt as well. Other competitors that will be vying for the victory include Michael Norris, Steve Baker, Lynn Geisler and Brandon Burgoon.

The Pit and Grandstand Admission Gates for this this week’s racing action open at 5:00PM with qualifying for the Pro-Late Model competitors beginning at approximately 6:30PM and the first green flag waving promptly at 7:00PM.

Adult Grandstand Admission is $15.00. Seniors, Ages 60 and Over, are admitted for $14.00 with Juniors, Ages 13 to 16, priced at $10.00. Admission for Children aged Six through 12 is $5.00 and Children Under Age Six will be admitted Free. In addition, all children aged Six through 12 will receive a free gift when they present their admission ticket at the PPMS Gift Shop, which now features Apparel by Denise.

Pit Admission for this week’s event is $35.00.

RUSH Pro-Late Model competitors are also reminded that a $50.00 per car entry fee is required.

Don’t forget that the Checkered Flag Food Court has a great variety of amusement park munchies like monster chicken wings, grilled chicken sandwiches and cotton candy at “fan friendly prices.” In addition, Ed’s Pub features a large selection of beer and mixed drinks at affordable prices.
