Wheatley to Tackle Ironman 55 and Capitani Classic This Weekend
Inside Line Promotions – LAKE STEVENS, Wash. (July 29, 2013) – Austen Wheatley is heading back onto the racing road this week and he is set to compete outside his home state of Washington for the first time since April.
Wheatley’s plan is to join the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series for the rest of the summer, beginning on Friday and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 for the Ironman 55.
“It’s very high banked and very fast and you’re pretty much always on the top,” he said. “It’s really tight and reaction times are very quick. It’s one of my favorites.”
In his only appearance at the track, Wheatley advanced from 19th to 14th during the 2011 Ironman 55, which earned him the KSE Hard Charger Award.
After his doubleheader this weekend at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55, Wheatley is slated to compete on Sunday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the Capitani Classic. It marks his first trip to the famed half mile since early last season and it will be his only tune-up before the 53 rd annual FVP Knoxville Nationals the following weekend.
“I don’t think it’ll be too tough getting used to it,” he said. “The speed is there. It’ll be good to get three solid nights in a row.”
