Winged Super Sprints And Super Lates $2,000 To Win;
RUSH Pro-Lates $1,000 To Win;
Late Model Sportsman $500 To Win
PITTSBURGH, PA — The divisional point champions may have been crowned last weekend but the racing action continues this Saturday, September 14th, as Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway presents the Tri-State Championships featuring the Winged Super Sprints, the Diehl of Robinson Super Late Models, Precise Racing Products RUSH Pro-Late Models, Sunoco Race Fuels Late Model Sportsman, Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stocks and the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns.
This Saturday we will also salute all of those who serve and protect our great nation and those who perished in the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001 and former speedway owner Red Miley, whose birthdate was also on September 11; as the first 100 children aged 12 and Under to enter the main grandstand will receive a Free American Flag. May we never forget those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day. In addition, those who present a valid military ID or are current first responders, police officers or emergency medical personnel will receive a $2.00 discount on their grandstand admission this Saturday.
“The 2013 point champions have been crowned but there is still plenty of racing action remaining here at Dirt’s Monster Half Mile,” stated speedway owner Matt Miley. “The weekly racing action has been second to none and we would like to provide competitors from other area speedways the opportunity to compete on Saturday evenings through October 5th.”
Since the 2013 point championships have been decided PPMS management has instituted the following rules for the remainder of the season:
Super Late Models will have an Open Tire Rule (Any Brand, Any Compound)
Late Model Sportsman will have an Open Tire Rule and rules that were utilized for the Ed Laboon Memorial 20 will apply in all other areas
Hobby Stocks may run 350 stock motors by adding 100 pounds. In addition any eight inch tire is permitted.
The RUSH Pro-Late Models will continue to be on the weekly racing card and all RUSH Series rules will be enforced. In addition all current rules for the Young Guns Division will be in effect. Drivers of any age are eligible to compete in the division as long as their car meets all PPMS Young Guns Division rules.
This week’s racing action will find the Winged Super Sprints taking center stage as they make their second and final appearance of the 2013 season. The 20 lap main event will find the winner receiving a $2,000.00 paycheck for his efforts. Carl Bowser was the victory when the division stopped by on August 17th and is expected to be in attendance this Saturday as well. Other Western PA and Eastern OH drivers expected to be on hand include Ed Lynch, Jr., Eric Williams, Brent and Brandon Matus, Jack Sodeman, Jr. and Ricky Byers.
The Diehl of Robinson Super Late Model competitors will also vie for a $2,000 payday. Their 30 lap main event will feature stars such as newly crowned divisional champion Alex Ferree, the 2012 divisional champion Michael Norris, Steve Baker, Jared Miley and Lynn Geisler. Since the NDRL sanctioned Pittsburgher event is just a month away, you never know which invaders may stop by to “tune up” for the $25,000 to win event on October 12th.
Kyle Lukon secured his third PPMS RUSH Pro-Late Model championship last Saturday evening and is one of the favorites to score the win this Saturday. In addition to Lukon, Tommy Schirnhofer is another divisional favorites heading into this weekend, as the third generation racer has been victorious in the last two Pro-Late Model events at the speedway. Mark Moats used consistency to pick up the runner-up spot in the 2013 points chase and is also expected to challenge for the win along with Laura Lukon, Colton Flinner, Dusty Curry, Josh Holtgraver and Justin Lamb.
The Miley BP Carwash Hobby Stocks and the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns will complete this Saturday’s racing card.
Competitors in all divisions are reminded that there will be No Entry Fees for this weekend’s racing action.
Adult Grandstand Admission for Saturday’s racing action is $20.00. Seniors, Ages 60 and Over, are admitted for $19.00 with Juniors, Ages 13 to 16, priced at $15.00. Admission for Children aged Six through 12 is $5.00 and Children Under Age Six will be admitted Free. In addition, all children aged Six through 12 will receive a free gift when they present their admission ticket at the PPMS Gift Shop, which now features Apparel by Denise.
Pit Admission for this week’s racing action is $40.00.
Fans may bring their own refreshments however; glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are not permitted. In addition, coolers are limited to 14 inches or smaller in size. Don’t forget that the Checkered Flag Food Court has a great variety of delicious food like hot and juicy quarter pound cheeseburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, curly fries and cotton candy at “fan friendly prices.”
Race fans over the age of 21 can purchase alcoholic beverages at Ed’s Pub, which is located under the main grandstand. Ed’s features all major brands of beer plus wine, mixed drinks, and energy drinks at local tavern type pricing!
