WAYCROSS, GA (September 11, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is gearing up for a huge weekend of racing in the states of Kentucky and Indiana on September 20th and 21st. The series will return to Florence Speedway in Union, KY on Friday night September 20th for the 27th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial that was postponed in June, due to rain. This special event is in honor of the late Ralph Latham. Ralph was a three-decade Cincinnati area racing star and former Florence Speedway track Champion that passed away in August of 1986 from cancer.
The stars and cars of the LOLMDS will battle some of the toughest local and regional drivers when they visit Florence Speedway next weekend. Don O’Neal driver of the Optima Batteries, MasterSbilt Chassis House Car #71 has won this event the past two years and is excited to return to Florence Speedway where he won this year’s Sunoco North/South 100 – Presented by Lucas Oil. “I love going to Florence Speedway and seeing all the great fans that come there. This event is special for the Latham family and hopefully we can win it three years in a row”, stated O’Neal. O’Neal will be making his first appearance back with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at this event after suffering injuries in a wreck at the series sanctioned event in Bulls Gap TN on August 22nd. The Ralph Latham Memorial will include LOLMDS Hot-Laps, RED BUCK Time Trials, LOLMDS Heat races, B-Mains and a 50-lap feature event paying $10,000 to win and $800 to start. Open wheel modifieds will run a full show for their division on Friday night with the LOLMDS. For tickets and more information about the 27th annual Ralph Latham Memorial and Florence Speedway visit www.florencespeedway.com.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will then travel to the historic Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN on Saturday night September 21st for the 34th Annual Jackson 100. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will headline the activities with a full show with LOLMDS Hot laps, RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-lap feature event that will pay $15,000 to win and $1,000 to start. Modifieds and Super Stocks will run as support classes on Saturday. Current LOLMDS points leader Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN is the defending race winner and will lead the stars and cars of the series into Brownstown Speedway that weekend. “Brownstown Speedway is a fun track to race on. It’s very unique in that you can drive off the back straight-a-way and the front straight-a-way and still be fast there. Hopefully we can repeat there again this year and get a big win for all our fans and sponsors that support us”, stated Jimmy Owens. “The events at Florence Speedway and Brownstown Speedway are shaping up to be an exciting weekend for our loyal fans to attend, camp out and visit two special events with a lot of history. We want to thank both Jim Price of Brownstown Speedway and the King Family at Florence Speedway for working together and putting this great weekend together after Florence was postponed in June, due to rain. We encourage all race fans to attend these special events next weekend and see some great racing”, stated Ritchie Lewis, Director, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
