WAYCROSS, GA (October 2, 2013) – The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will travel back to the state of Georgia this weekend and visit two tracks that have been on the schedule every year since the series was formed in 2005. This weekend’s events will take place on Saturday night, October 5th with the “Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout” at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA and Sunday night, October 6th for the “Rome Showdown” at Rome Speedway in Rome, GA. Both tracks are owned by the Swims family and both events are a mainstay on the series schedule each year.
There will be a complete show both days with LOLMDS Hot-laps, RED BUCK Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and a 50-lap $10,000 to win main event at each track. Support classes at Dixie Speedway will include: Econo, Pony, Limiteds and Cruisers. Support Classes at Rome speedway include: Econo, Pony, Limited’s and Crates. For tickets and more information on both race tracks you can visit www.dixiespeedway.com or call (770) 926-5315 and www.dixiespeedway.com/Rome or call (706) 235-2541.
Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN is leading the 2013 series championship points standings and won last year’s “Lucas Oil Dixie Shootout” in a race that was filled with thrilling racing action. Owens had to come from the 13th starting position to earn his first career Dixie Shootout victory. “To win the Dixie Shootout means a lot to me, our team and car owner. It’s close to home, so we get to see a lot of fans and the tradition the event holds is special and hopefully we can win it again this year”, stated Owens.
John Blankenship of Williamson, WV is the defending champion of the “Lucas Oil Rome Showdown”. Blankenship is currently third in the LOLMDS championship points standings and is having the best year of his career in 2013. Blankenship has three wins on the series, including the $20,000 to win Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Motor Speedway this year and he just recently won the World 100 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH – taking home the $46,000 first place prize money and the coveted Globe trophy. “We’re excited to be going back to Rome Speedway this weekend. It’s a great track and super-fast, which fits my driving style. Hopefully we can get a win there and a few more before the season is over”, stated Blankenship.
“It’s always exciting to head back to the state of Georgia and see all the great fans in the south. The tradition and legacy that was set by the late Mike Swims is special at both tracks to me personally and to Lucas Oil Products and the Series. We hope to again honor what Mike Swims has done for the sport and also remember the great Jimmy Mosteller who was a vital part of the Dixie and Rome Speedway over the years,” stated Ritchie Lewis, Director, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Both events this weekend will be filmed by the award winning Lucas Oil Production Studios to air on several TV networks in 2013. The entire 2013 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series TV schedule can be found on the series website at: http://www.lucasdirt.com/schedule/tv-schedule/ .
