“NORTHERN STATES CLASSIC” PRESENTED BY SUNOCO THIS WEEKEND AT ROARING KNOB FOR SWEENEY RUSH LATE MODEL SERIES; OVER $5,000 TO WIN POSSIBLE
October 15, 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Markleysburg, PA)…After a very successful two-day “Pittsburgher” in which 38 drivers participated last weekend at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway, the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series returns to action this weekend (October 18-19) at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. The “Northern States Classic” presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will be the season’s biggest event with the possibility of one driver being able to win over $5,000!
The “Northern States Classic” will be highlighted by a $3,000 to-win Sweeney Tour event (open to all). In addition, a $1,000 to-win RUSH members only feature along with the $200 to-win “Futures Cup” Trifecta finale will be run. Also, the top point man between the two features will earn an additional $1,000 meaning a sweep of both features would be worth $5,000!
“This will be a great event for our racers,” stated RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “Not only is it one of our biggest Tour events, but we’ve added in a members only feature along with the top man bonus money, and the Futures Cup Trifecta race. There’s truly something for everyone to participate in. We have to thank Rick Jones of Roaring Knob and Sunoco Race Fuels for making this event possible. We always enjoy going to Roaring Knob and Rick always gives the drivers a racey track to compete on.”
Bobby Lake Motorsports “Shock the Clock” qualifying and heat races will be run on Friday night for Saturday’s Sweeney Tour feature. The fast qualifier will receive $100 and each heat race winner will earn $25. At the end of the program, a separate round of qualifying will be held to determine the lineup for Saturday’s member’s only feature.
Saturday’s program will include the K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash to determine the first four starting spots of the Sweeney Tour feature followed by last chance B mains and the $3,000 to-win feature. Later in the program, the RUSH members only feature will be run. The points from the two features will be added up to award the top point getter a cool thousand dollars!
The $3,000 to-win Sweeney Tour portion will be race #23 of the 24 season and the fifth and final race of the season at Roaring Knob. Prior Roaring Knob Tour winners include Mike Pegher, Jr., Ryan Montgomery, Michael Lake, and Chad McClellan. Will there be a fifth different winner in as many events this season?
After his sweep of last weekend’s “Pittsburgher”, Montgomery went from trailing Pegher by 18 points to leading him by 17! Roaring Knob is a track that both racers have had success at over the years. Montgomery is now the Series’ top winner of the season with five victories to Pegher and Max Blair’s four wins. A total of 11 different racers have won Sweeney Tour races in 2013.
Butch Lambert is third in points over Rick Singleton and Chad Ruhlman. Completing the top 15 points paying positions are Cody Dawson, Joe Martin, Matt Glanden, Blair, Lake, Andrew Wylie, W.L. Stile, Jorden Peters, Dennis Lunger, Jr., and Matt Latta.
All “Futures Cup” racers will be able to participate in their own race paying $200 to-win on Friday night. This race will finalize the 2013 chase. The race’s points will be added to each driver’s best 15 Sweeney Weekly score and their point totals from the other two “Trifecta” events. The first “Trifecta” race was won by Canadian Jorden Peters at Pittsburgh, while Clay Ruffo captured the win at his home track, Sharon Speedway. The top 10 drivers will share in a $3,000 point fund. Currently Eric Wilson leads Lake by 10 points to determine the $1,000 championship.
NOTE: The $3,000 to-win Sweeney Tour portion of the event is open to ALL competitors! RUSH Member racers that joined this season will be eligible to compete in BOTH features and will be eligible for the $1,000 top point man bonus! There will be no Tour points awarded for the second feature. Of course “Futures Cup” drivers can participate in all three events!
Other programs taking place will be the Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down Hard Charger” as the driver that passes the most cars in the Tour feature will receive $100 Precise certificate. RUSH Officials will choose The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” as this driver will receive three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase.
