17th Annual Bama Bash Ready for Move to New Venue and Addition of NDRL Sanctioning
Phenix City, Alabama (February 11, 2014) The 17th Annual Bama Bash will be filled with plenty of changes in 2014. The popular early season classic will move from its former home – Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe – over to its new home at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City. The move was necessary after Green Valley owner/promoter Dennis Harker announced that he was closing the facility and selling off the property. “We gave Green Valley all we had for over 6 years. It just took a toll on us all. I was pained over the decision but I had to do what was best for me and my family.” Harker said.
However Harker did not want to see his beloved Bama Bash come to an end. “I have always had a very good relationship with the Thomas family at East Alabama so I approached them about continuing the Bama Bash at their track. We came to an agreement and here we are. I am very pleased that we could keep the Bash alive at a great racetrack with a strong fan base.” Harker added. The 17th Annual Bama Bash is scheduled for February 27th through March 1st and will feature racing in 7 exciting divisions including Super Late Models, Late Model Sportsman, Crate Late Models, Super Streets, Hobbies, Bombers and Cruisers.
Also new for the Bama Bash this year will be the addition of sanctioning by the 2nd year National Dirt Racing League (NDRL). “When Kelley (Carlton, NDRL Series Director) approached me about sanctioning the event I was intrigued by the idea. Kelley and Rick (Eshelman, NDRL Series Announcer) have been a part of the Bash for a few years and it seemed like a really good fit. So we worked with Kelley and John Kennedy to make it work. This should be a big year for the Bama Bash and I am proud to be able be a part of bringing it to all the race fans and teams.” Harker concluded.
“I can’t tell you how excited we are to be part of the Bama Bash. When I heard Dennis was going to keep the Bash going I was absolutely thrilled by the news. The Bama Bash has always been one of my favorite events of the year. So when I spoke to Dennis and he was open to the idea of sanctioning with the NDRL, you can imagine how much more excited I became. Add to that the fact that we will be doing it at East Alabama Motor Speedway and I was stoked. EAMS is one of the most popular racetracks in the Southeast and they always draw good car counts and plenty of fans. So it was a big deal for us to be able to bookend our points season at East Alabama with the Bash and the National 100. We feel like we will be able to bring some racers that haven’t been to the area in quite some time or some that may not have ever been. So race fans can expect a really diverse field of drivers from all over the country.” said NDRL Series Director Kelley Carlton.
