Lakeside Speedway Hosts FVP Outlaws at Lakeside, “Salute to the King” Tour June 7

Inside Line Promotions – KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Kansas City was known as a hot bed for sprint car racing a couple of decades ago.

Since then the biggest race for the area every year is the annual World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event, which is slated for Saturday, June 7, this season for the FVP Outlaws at Lakeside.

There is also a bonus this season as the fast track hosts the “Salute to the King” tour for 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, who is in his final year of chasing the championship.

“We’ve had a lot of success there and I look forward to racing there,” he said. “It’s just a nice sized, big track. There’s a lot of good competition with the World of Outlaws and the locals.”

Kinser has recorded a series-best three feature victories during the eight World of Outlaws points races at Lakeside, including back-to-back triumphs in 2010-11. He was also victorious in 2001.

“When it gets real high on the top you can run the bottom,” he said. “It’s usually got one corner that has two grooves. Any time you get a track like that you can’t complain.”

Since Kinser’s last win, Sammy Swindell and Craig Dollansky each picked up a victory. Swindell also has three wins at Lakeside Speedway after claiming the inaugural non-points race in 1991 and the first points race in 1992.

World of Outlaws Returns to I-80 Speedway for NAPA Shootout on June 6

Inside Line Promotions – GREENWOOD, Neb. – Joey Saldana has a lot of history in the state of Nebraska.

His parents are from ‘The Cornhusker State’ and his sisters were born in the Lincoln area, which is a short drive to see Saldana and the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series make an anticipated return to I-80 Speedway for the NAPA Shootout on Friday, June 6, for the first time in more than a decade.

“I love it,” Saldana said. “Back in the early 2000s the Outlaws used to run there a lot. I think it’s a perfect-sized track. It’s not too small and not too big. It always puts on a good show.”

The June 6 event marks the first World of Outlaws race on the wide track since 2003. Sandwiched between that date and the inaugural event in 1995 were 15 main events. Seven drivers recorded at least one win, led by Mark Kinser, who won the first four and five total.

Danny Lasoski – the most recent winner – scored three feature victories with 20-time World of Outlaws champion Steve Kinser and three-time series champion Sammy Swindell each winning twice.

“The track is so wide and the grooves are so different it does put on a really good show,” Saldana said. “I wish more tracks were built like it. It’s really wide and I’m looking forward to it.”

It also doesn’t hurt that Saldana will be able to race in front of family and friends.

“It’s nice to go back,” he said. “I don’t get to go back there very often.”

World of Outlaws “Salute to the King” Tour Invades Kokomo Speedway June 4

Inside Line Promotions – KOKOMO, Ind. – Steve Kinser leads the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series to Kokomo Speedway on Wednesday, June 4, in more than one way.

The winningest sprint car driver scored the inaugural Outlaws win at the bullring in 1978 and he has earned a series-best six feature victories at the track located approximately two hours from his hometown of Bloomington.

“My dad ran there every Sunday night for many years,” he said. “He was track champion and I don’t know how many races he won there.”

Kinser enters this year’s event on his “Salute to the King” tour as he is in his final season of competing for the World of Outlaws championship.

“All the Kinsers have ran pretty good there,” he said. “I have a lot of race fans there. It’s good to get back there and see them.”

While all of Kinser’s victories at Kokomo are special, one stands out.

“Me and my dad ran first and second during a World of Outlaws race, which was really a big deal,” he said. “He led until about three or four laps to go and I finally got by him. He led it all the way until right at the end and I got by him.”

The triumph more than 30 years ago was Kinser’s first of five World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series wins at Kokomo Speedway in the 1980s.

McMahan Leads World of Outlaws into NAPA Rumble in Michigan on May 31

Inside Line Promotions – LAKE ODESSA, Mich. – Paul McMahan looks forward to returning to I-96 Speedway every year for the annual NAPA Rumble in Michigan.

This year he has added incentive for the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event on Saturday, May 31. McMahan claimed last year’s race on the half-mile track. However, the track has since been reconfigured to a wider, 3/8-mile oval.

“(The track size) doesn’t matter,” he said. “We run on different race tracks throughout the season. The biggest thing is to figure out what gear to run.”

McMahan was the fourth consecutive different winner of the race last season in an area he is familiar with. McMahan drove for a sprint car team based in Michigan from 1999-2002.

“I’ve got a lot of friends up in Michigan from when I drove the U2 car,” he said. “Our shop was only an hour from I-96 Speedway. We have a lot of friends and family up there.”

McMahan made a late-race pass last year to take the lead en route to his third World of Outlaws feature win of the season. This year he has recorded two feature victories.
