August 28, 2014
(By Mike Leone)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)…The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Dirt Late Model Touring Series will be back in action this weekend as the “$50,000 End of Summer Blowout” presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will take place Saturday, August 30 at McKean County Raceway and Sunday, August 31 at Wayne County Speedway. Both events will pay $1,500 to-win with Saturday’s event at M.C.R. being “Manufacturers Night” and Sunday’s show at Wayne County being the first ever Crate Late Model event held in the history of the Orrville, Ohio oval! Warm-ups begin both nights at 6:30 p.m.
“This is going to be a huge weekend for us,” stated RUSH Co-Director Vicki Emig. “The Manufacturers Night has become a big tradition that’s highly anticipated by the racers and we’re glad to offer this night to McKean and all of the numerous racers in the northern part of our region. Every participating driver will receive at least one prize with several receiving multiple prizes! Many national companies are again involved along with several new ones that are participating this year. Then on Sunday we’re anxiously looking forward to presenting Crate Late Model racing at a renowned place like Wayne County and in front of a big crowd that’s expected for the All Star Sprint Car and Super Late Model event.”
“Manufacturers Night” is in its third year as the inaugural event was a t held at Sharon Speedway in 2012 and drew 47 cars, while last year the event was moved to Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway and attracted a 40-car field. The Sweeney Tour is coming off a season high 38-car field at the last event, which was held at McKean as part of the 109th annual Fair on Thursday, August 14. Another strong field is expected Saturday night with some $30,000 of actual product to be given away!
It’s no secret Late Model racing has a rich history throughout the state of Ohio and has been a part of Wayne County’s traditional program for many, many years. Not only will Sunday be the first ever Crate Late Model event, but it will be a Sweeney Tour event and will hopefully be the first of many events at the Orrville, Ohio oval. Wayne County has already announced they will be adding Crate Late Models to their weekly program in 2016!
At just past the halfway point, Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, West Virginia leads the Sweeney Tour into the weekend with a 59-point advantage thanks to nine top 10 finishes in 10 events including a victory at Pittsburgh on July 12. Montgomery’s lead though has shrunk to John Waters, who has recorded three top five finishes in the past four events including his first ever Sweeney Tour win on July 20 at Humberstone!
Early point leader Chad McClellan has slipped to third in points. After winning two of the first five events along with a fifth place finish, the Stoystown, Pa. veteran has managed just one top five finish since. Jason Rider is another driver that started the season off strong with three straight top eight finishes, but has failed to finish better than ninth in the last seven events as he’s dropped to fourth in points.
Eric Wilson currently sits fifth in pairs with a pair of top five finishes. The Cortland, Ohio teen ventured west to Wayne County last Saturday to get a feel for the track and did quite well finishing fifth with the Super Late Models! Maryland racer Cody Dawson is just one-point behind Wilson in sixth. Four-time Series winner, Rick Singleton, has yet to finish worse than third in any of his six starts this year and is seventh over Ralph Morgan, Jr., W.L. Stile, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Robby Marhefka, Reese Masiello, Andrew Wylie, John Imler, and Russell Baird, Jr., who complete the top 15 points paying positions.
McKean has completed 14 RUSH-sanctioned events this year. Chad Ruhlman, who leads the $5,000 to-win Sweeney Weekly Series standings, has eight of those victories. Defending Sweeney Weekly Series Champion, Max Blair, is the only other multiple winner, while Damian Bidwell, Andy Michael, Adam Sixt, and Bryce Davis all have single victories.
The K&N “Cold Air Induction” Dash will be run each night paying $100 K&N certificate to win, $50 K&N certificate for second with $25 cash for third and fourth place. Rick Singleton leads the K&N Dash Championship. If enough cars are present, a non-qualifier event will be run.
Precise Racing Products will award a $100 gift card for the “Pedal Down” Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature each night. The Brake Man “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid valued at approximately $45 along with a certificate good for either $50 off of a purchase of $100 or more or 20% off any The Brake Man purchase each night.
Driven Racing Oil’s “Slick Move of the Night” winner will receive a bottle of Driven Racing Oil Race Wax, a can of Driven Racing Oil Speed Clean, and a certificate for $50 off a case of Driven XP Synthetic Racing Oil!
Crate Innovations will present both the “Ignite” and “Performance Plus” Awards. The 11th place finisher on Saturday night and 12th place finisher on Sunday night (provided he hasn’t won the award before) will receive a carb spacer kit that includes one billet aluminum Accelerator-1, one upper and one lower spacer gasket, and four specifically designed washers used for installation, while the driver that finishes last on the lead lap each night (provided he hasn’t won the award before) will receive the Moroso Custom Fit Plug Wire Set, which are custom tailored for use with the Chevrolet Performance 602 and 604 circle track engines.
