ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 9/20/14 – “That’s was pretty exciting.”

That understatement of the night was delivered by Danny Dietrich after scoring his fourth win of the year in the 25-lap Hank Gentzler Memorial Manufacturers Appreciation Night feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

The thriller saw Dietrich and Montieth throw slide jobs at each other in every turn over the final five laps.

“I wasn’t sure who was going to win. He got to second and I was kinda biding my time there in lapped traffic,” said Dietrich upon exiting his Sandoe’s Fruit Market/Weikert’s Livestock #48 in victory lane.

Time trials and an inversion of eight put Dietrich on the front row with polesitter Brandon Rahmer for the start. Dietrich wasted no time in grabbing the front spot in the first two turns, holding off fourth-starting Cory Haas through the middle stages of the race as Montieth was working his way to the front from sixth starting spot.

Montieth took second from Haas with five laps to go, and slid under Dietrich for the race lead exiting turn four of lap 21. But a caution for a four-car spin involving Jim Siegel, Bill Stine, Shane Hoff, and Aaron Ott in turns one and two negated the pass.

“He caught me by surprise,” said Dietrich, “I thought he was racing Cory (for second). Dietrich assumed the lead for the final restart, with Haas back in second and Montieth third.

Montieth drove around Haas immediately and started the late-race duel, taking the lead by the completion of lap 21.

From there, it was slide job heaven on each turn. Montieth was actually scored the leader of laps 21 and 22.

“It was definitely elbows up. I’m not sure who had the best line but I knew I could stick the bottom and through the middle pretty good,” said Dietrich, “The last lap I blew it into one and I figured I just needed to get to the cushion first and drive off. If I sat too long in the middle, he’d be standing here. It was good, clean, hard, fun racing. It doesn’t get any more exciting than that. My hat’s off to Montieth for a hell of-a-run he put on.”

Montieth settled for a close second .256 seconds behind Dietrich, with Haas, Austin Hogue, and Brandon Rahmer.
Sixth through tenth were Greg Hodnett, Lance Dewease, track champ Alan Krimes, Adam Wilt, and Gerard McIntyre, Jr.

Sprint heats were won by Danny Dietrich, Haas, Dewease, and Montieth, with Jordan Mackison winning the consolation. Fast time in time trials over the 45-car field was set by Krimes with one-lap time of 13.388-seconds (100.837 MPH).

More than $42,000 in manufacturers’ products and services were distributed to the 24 race teams that qualified for the feature. Thanks to the efforts of Denise Gentzler and Hank’s Performance Products, every driver received a prize package worth at least $1,600 at intermission. Bonus money was also provided to the first two alternates and the hard charger.

Mechanicsburg’s Kevin Nouse came from sixth starting spot to claim his 100th career win in the 20-lap “358” sprint car feature. Nouse took the lead from Doug Hammaker in heavy lapped traffic as the leaders came down the front stretch to begin lap 18.

Hammaker settled for second, with C.J. Tracey, Jeff Rohrbaugh, and Matt Campbell completing the top five.

Rohrbaugh’s fourth-place finish coupled with his fourth-place finish at Trail-Way back on September 5th was good enough to claim the 2014 Trail-Way/Lincoln Shootout bonus of $500, edging Mike Bittinger in a tie-breaker for having the better Lincoln finish.

Heats for the 358 Sprints were won by Bittinger, Hammaker, and Jeff Halligan, with Brad McClelland winning the consolation, and finishing third in the two-race Shootout.

Dalton Dietrich assumed the lead when Colby Dice lost a drive line on lap six, and went on to score his first career win in the PASS Racesaver 305 Sprint Car 20-lap feature event.

Scott Ellerman, 11th-starting Paul Snyder, Cale Griffin, and Mark Watkins finished second through fifth.

Heats for the 21 PASS Sprints were won by Erin Statler and Watkins.

Next Saturday night, September 27th, Lincoln will host the $20,000-to-win “DIRT CLASSIC PRESENTED BY KASEY KAHNE” for the 410 Sprints. Time trials will start at 7:00 PM, with gates opening at 4:00 PM.
