NEW CASTLE, IN (August 14, 2017) – Securing the largest payday of his young career, New Castle, Indiana’s Caleb Armstrong entered the inaugural Great Lakes Dirt Nationals at Mansfield (OH) Motor Speedway on Saturday and left as a winner, out-dueling 62 other entries for a $15,000 top prize. Armstrong’s triumph, leading the majority of the 20-lap program, also clinched an A-main starting position for the upcoming Mansfield Motor Speedway World Championships in April. The recently announced blockbuster will award $100,000.
The pilot of the Baker Crop Insurance/Neal Metal Recycling/All-Star Performance/Armstrong Farms/No. 7C started second on the Great Lakes Dirt Nationals grid, solidifying his front row starting position by transferring through the first of six FAST Series/Ohio Sprint Car Series heat races. The victory, Armstrong’s first of the 2017 season, adds depth to a building list of recent accomplishments which includes a runner-up finish with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions in West Lebanon, New York, as well as a top-five performance during the annual Freedom 40 at Atomic (OH) Speedway.
“This has been a long time coming. We’ve been close on several attempts, so I’m glad to finally get it done,” Caleb Armstrong said about his victory. “This is definitely the biggest win of my career. Hopefully we can use this momentum to our advantage when we head to Central Pennsylvania this weekend. It’s a whole different world out there, but we’re excited to get going.”
After a two week break, the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions schedule will resume with a four-pack of programs in Central Pennsylvania, joining the infamous Pennsylvania Posse for four consecutive, $5,000-to-win events from Thursday, August 17, to Sunday, August 20. Armstrong, who is currently third in the Series championship standings, will join “America’s Series” at Grandview Speedway, Williams Grove Speedway, Lincoln Speedway, and Susquehanna Speedway, respectively. The upcoming weekend swing will be the last Pennsylvania appearance for Armstrong and the Arctic Cat All Stars until Friday, September 8.
