FOREST, Ohio (February 20, 2023) – Like so many of the nation’s finest open wheel aces, Pleasant Hill, Ohio’s Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports kicked-off their 2023 campaign with a trek to the Sunshine State, joining the USAC National Sprint Cars in visits to Volusia Speedway Park in De Leon Springs and Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala on Monday through Saturday, February 13-18.
The trip south proved to be well-worth the miles logged, as Westfall and the gang capped the four-race slate with three top-ten finishes, highlighting all of which with a seventh-place score at Bubba Raceway Park on Thursday, February 16. A heat race victory helped propel the Forest, Ohio-based non-wing program toward their final outcome, starting eighth on the A-Main grid before improving.
In addition, Westfall, pilot of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc./Hempy Water/DPI Ink/No. 33M sprint car, recorded a tenth-place finish at Volusia on February 14, followed by an eighth-place finish at Bubba to end the trip on February 18. Westfall’s final night of competition was perhaps his most impressive display, kicking off all action with the fourth-fastest time during qualifying time trials, driving on to utilize a fifth-place score during his respective heat race to seal his A-Main fate.
“We were happy to be there, and we’re happy to get another season going,” Westfall, who will participate in the entire USAC National Sprint Car Series schedule in 2023, said. “I can’t thank Ray Marshall enough for this opportunity. He’s truly the backbone of this operation and we couldn’t do any of this without him. His love for the sport is unmatched and I’m lucky to have the chance to drive his cars. We’ll head to Paragon with momentum and confidence and we’ll put them both to work.”
