CARLISLE, Pa. (June 12, 2023) – Despite a slow start to the weekend that witnessed Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports finish 17th at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Friday, June 9, the Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based World of Outlaws team turned the corner in a hurry, quickly regrouping for their 16th top-ten score of the season, doing so with a ninth-place finish at the Sprint Car Capital of the World on Saturday, June 10.
A consistent Saturday evening on the whole, Bayston, ace of the TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, Highlands’ Power Sports, High Performance Lubricants, No. 5 sprint car, kicked things off with a runner-up performance during heat race competition, racing on to finish third in the evening’s dash.
Padding the stat book, Bayston, who calls Lebanon, Indiana, home, has been inside the top-ten on three occasions in his last four World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series starts, earning two during a recent two-day swing to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minnesota, on Friday and Saturday, June 2-3; Bayston finished ninth on each occasion.
“It’s always valuable to get laps at Knoxville, especially when trying to establish a baseline for the Nationals. I really wish we had the opportunity to race there more often. Every time we are there, I feel like we learn something new,” Bayston explained. “Having two nights back-to-back is really beneficial, and we really built a solid feel.
“I’m glad Carson [Macedo] is doing well after the incident,” Bayston added. “As a driver or a fan, I never want to have to experience something like that again. I’m extremely thankful for our equipment and the safety crews for keeping us safe.”
ON DECK:
Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with a two-day visit to the Badger State, ready to invade Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, for the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, June 16-17.
