FOREST, Ohio (September 25, 2023) – Matt Westfall and Ray Marshall Motorsports kept the momentum rolling during the recent weekend, not only recording back-to-back top-tens with the USAC National Sprint Cars, but doing so at a pair of unique and highly regarded ovals. The recent USAC winner, accomplishing his feat at Texarkana 67 Speedway, kicked off his weekend stretch with a third-place run at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Indiana, on Thursday, September 21, followed closely by a ninth-place score at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on Saturday, September 23. Additionally, Westfall’s podium at Gas City was the product of a hard charge through the field, commencing action from 12th on the grid.
Westfall, ace of Ray Marshall’s Buckeye Machine Fabricators Inc, Hempy Water, DPI Ink, No. 33M sprint car, made his rally at the Gas City quarter-mile look easy, mastering the bottom while picking off positions one by one. In fact, Westfall battled his way to a podium spot by lap 24, igniting his entire evening effort with the tenth-fastest time of 32 cars, racing on to finish third in his respective heat race.
Westfall’s Eldora 4-Crown Nationals attempt actually commenced better than it ended, getting away second at the initial start before fading slightly. Nonetheless, Westfall’s impressive display allowed the Pleasant Hill, Ohio, native to bump his season’s top-ten total to 18, two of which the aforementioned victories.
“Can’t get enough of Gas City and Eldora. They are completely different, but we enjoy racing at each of them,” Westfall said. “Hats off to Ray and his entire team. It’s been a pleasure to drive for him over the years. This year’s not done yet, though. We still have some work to do.”
