SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (March 4, 2024) – As announced earlier in the year, the “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 launched their 2024 campaign with a trip to the Lone Star State, activating competition officially with an ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprints pair at Hunt County Raceway and Kennedale Speedway Park on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2.
Despite a tough weekend from an A-Main results perspective, settling for “DNF” finishes in each of the aforementioned starts, there were plenty of shining moments. For example, the Big Wheel was victorious in each of his respective heat races, and with passing points setting the tone for each evening’s A-Main lineup, Thiel’s heat race accomplishments ultimately allowed him to start fifth at Hunt County Raceway and seventh at Kennedale Speedway Park. In fact, at Hunt County, Thiel was within the top-six in passing points following heat race action which propelled him to the feature redraw.
Thiel was battling within the top-five at Hunt County when he was spun on lap two; he restarted at the back but pulled off shortly thereafter.
At Kennedale, Thiel was up to fifth with just four laps scored only to get crossed up and hit; there was no work area and he did not return.
“A tough weekend, but we’re going to shake this off and keep working,” Thiel, driver of the Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, No. 73 sprint car, said. “Hats off to my team. Our end results were frustrating, but they kept their heads up and kept moving forward. The season is young. I’m confident we’ll redeem ourselves when we join the Outlaws this weekend at Kennedale.”
