BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 8, 2025) – “The Madman” Kerry Madsen put on a show Friday night at Vado Speedway Park in Vado, New Mexico, not only concluding competition with a third-place outcome, but leading laps in the process. The eventual podium was Madsen’s first of the season with Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, helping boost the team’s overall top-five count to nine, as well as 30 top-tens.
As hinted, Madsen led ten laps in his effort in New Mexico. David Gravel, the eventual winner, would slip by Madsen following a misjudged lapped car.
“I saw David or heard him a couple of times and thought, ‘I’ve got to go,’” Madsen said at Vado. “I actually had a great run on the lapped car, and that one lap he decided to go middle-top, and I thought, ‘Oh my god. Being half a car back I could’ve zipped under him.’ David was knocking on the door, so you’ve got to go win the race. Honestly, I’m disappointed not to but still pretty excited to have a great run.”
Madsen, aboard Tony Stewart’s Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Curb Records, Martin One Source, No. 15S sprint car, kicked-off preliminary competition with the fifth-fastest qualifying time, racing on to finish second in his respective heat race. A win at Vado would have snapped Madsen’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series win drought; his last triumph was in 2021.
The Desert Showdown at Vado was scheduled to be two days, but Mother Nature had other plans and ruined Saturday’s event.
