The World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series visits the Williams Grove Speedway three times a year; with 6 evenings of racing being contested total in a season. The Summer Nationals outlaw event at Williams Grove Speedway used to be three consecutive nights of racing instead of two – but that has since changed, making all three WoO visits to the central PA half mile double header events. Last night was the first of those contests – ending with the Posse taking 3 out of the top 5 places. That really isn’t surprising considering the level of competition central PA has to offer. The Ex Outlaw now turned PA Posse, Daryn Pittman, won his first outlaw event driving for Heffner Racing last night; outdueling Brian Leppo, Jason Sides, Stevie Smith, and Steve Kinser – who followed him across the line in the order. There were 41 cars signed in for what was a single lap qualifying event – which was initiated due to threatening weather in the area. The weather never turned out to be a factor, though; leaving the evening dry with the occasional mist or sprinkle. The show moved along quickly; allowing me to be out of the track and in my car ready to leave by 10:30.
Some interesting notes; Doug Esh took a nasty ride – flipping and hitting the famous backstretch bridge. He would walk away unharmed. Shane Stewart was in the house last night. The ASCS National Tour is off this weekend so im assuming Shane decided to take advantage of the off weekend and stroll on up to visit central PA. He is the driver of the Rockstar Energy, Makita Industrial Power Tools #57 for Paul Silva on the ASCS National Tour. He is currently on top of the point standings. Tony Stewart was also in town last night; I found him hanging around the pit area and helping prepare Donny Schatz’s car for the A-main.
