USAC National Sprint Car action picked back up tonight at the Lincoln Speedway in south central Pennsylvania. Tony Stewart Racing’s Levi Jones, who was also the evening’s fastest qualifier, picked up the victory. Tomorrow night, the Eastern Storm heads to New Egypt, New Jersey before having an off day on Friday.
This weekend is filled to the brim once again with winged sprint car action. National touring bodies have a packed schedule for the weekend including the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, All Star Circuit of Champions, USAC National Sprint Car Series, ASCS National Series, URC Series, and the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title series. I’m sure there is a long list of other possibilities including the USCS, IRA, Midwest All Stars…ect. For me to cover all of those, myself, would be almost impossible; so I stick with discussing what I am most familiar with.
The World of Outlaws will visit the Belleville High Banks for the first time since 1981 this weekend, as well as take aim at the Lakeside Speedway in the heartland of Kansas. Dale Blaney and the All Stars will make their first ever appearance at the Clinton County Raceway in north-central Pennsylvania this Sunday evening. I have never been to the facility but from what I understand, its not too far from Lock Haven, PA. The Lucas Oil ASCS National tour presented by K&N Filters will be visiting the I-30 Speedway in Little Rock,Arkansas this weekend. The premiere national 360ci series is back in action for the first time since April. Shane Stewart still sits on top of the points standings.
On a side note; Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania will be hosting double winged action this weekend as the URC 360 Series featuring such drivers as JJ Grasso, Becca Anderson, and Curt Michael will be invading the Mechanicsburg half-mile to co-host a Friday night show with the PA Posse 410 division. Daryn Pittman, one of the hottest drivers in PA right now, will be making a 360ci start that night.
June is a very exciting month for open wheel racing. USAC Midget Week is one of the featured highlighted events on my personal calendar to keep an eye on. The best in USAC midget competition will hit the bullrings of Indiana for 5 straight nights of racing that take place at Gas City, Lincoln Park, Bloomington, Lawrenceburg, and Kokomo Speedway in that particular order. The midget week begins June 8th and continues until June 12.
Speaking of speedweeks, the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek also takes place this month, as well as the start of Pennsylvania’s 410 Sprint Speedweek. More to come on those as the events come closer on the calendar.
