Mercer, PA: This Saturday, Mercer Raceway Park will celebrate the Independence Day holiday with Patriot’s Night. The exciting six-division Saturday Nite Live! racing card will also include a Fireworks Spectacular presented by Pizza Joe’s. Veterans with ID and Scouts in uniform will be admitted free! There will be no increase in ticket prices for this event.
With the Mid-season Championships in the books, the racers are ready for the second half of the season.
Eric “Turkey” Williams captured the flag in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars and he went out and backed it up with an impressive third in the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek Show at Sharon Speedway Tuesday night. And, we would be remiss if we did not recognize Brandon “the Wheelman” Matus for his astounding win in that event. The third-generation racer climbed from 18th to win over an outstanding field of cars. Then, he climbed the front stretch fence, much to the delight of the crowd. Maybe he will do it again at the Park!
“Rapid” Rob Curtis will show the way in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. He was one of three points leaders who used their victories to pad their margins over the competition. “Trusty” Rusty Moore (Precise Racing Products Stock Cars) and Mark Marcucci (Big Daddy’s Speed Center/Rock Concrete Modified Lites) were the others.
“Smokin” Joe McEwen got maximum advantage of his double point win last week. That, plus the misfortunes of Justin Whitesell, allowed the veteran driver to replace the youngster at the top of the Ti22 Performance Outlaw Sprint Warriors standings.
The Longwell team (Steve Sr., Steve Jr. and Joel Wisser) will be looking to sweep the podium positions in the Mini Stocks. The son topped the father last week, and Wisser was near the front. Could this be the week for them to dominate?
The gates will open at 4 p.m., and racing will start at 7 p.m. We will wait until the night sky darkens to start the fireworks.
Adult admission will be just $13, seniors $11, and students $5. Children ages 8 and under will be free. The economical Family Pass will be $28, good for two adults and up to four children of any age. Pit Passes will be $25.
